The Reds need Sims and Antone back so they can avoid relying on Brach and Hembree. It's ridiculous when you're still giving up 4 runs in 3 innings AFTER bolstering the pen with trades.

I feel for Castillo. He has been pitching like a Cy Young award winner since the start of June, but his record doesn't show it. He had three straight starts where he gave up 1 run or less - that includes unearned runs - and didn't pick up a win in any of those starts. The Kansas City game in particular was unfair to him, as Castillo threw 7 innings of 1-run ball, left with a good lead and clearly deserved to win, but the bullpen imploded.

The pen seems to give up runs no matter who is starting. The best the starter can do is try and go 7+ innings to limit the chances of the pen to blow it.

Castillo is a strikeout guy, he doesn't pitch to contact, and that actually is a really bad thing in terms of wins and losses for him on this team. A lot of times he is going 5 or 6 innings and leaves a lot of opportunity for the pen to blow it (and also limits the chances for the offense to score for him).

Miley is a little better strategic fit for this particular team because he doesn't strike as many guys out, gets a lot of guys to put the ball in play without driving up the pitch count, and as a result he usually goes a little deeper into games. You want to maximize the chances of the offense helping you and minimize the pen's influence on the game as much as possible.
