Cincinnati Reds 2021 (because we have to, I guess)

I want to say they can't hurt but I know they, somehow, probably will.
Wilson has had a terrible season. Although he hasn't completely sucked just looking at his past four outings combined, that is on the heels of giving up 4 runs without recording an out and coming off the IL. Clearly his contract is one New York saw as a nuisance, and they wanted to get rid of him so badly that they are giving up a bullpen asset in Cessa to get rid of Wilson. Cessa is a ground ball pitcher, so he should fit well in the band box that is GABP.

The trade makes sense for both parties. The Reds don't have to give up much and get a couple of veteran relievers to replace a couple of bad relievers in their patchwork bullpen mix. The Yankees needed some salary relief to avoid the luxury tax and needed roster flexibility to add other big league players now.

The Reds still need a true ace reliever, but they might not be willing to pay the price for that type of player.

The Reds will need somewhere in the range of 94 or 95 wins to secure either the division or the 2nd wildcard. That's .700 ball from here on out.

They don't have that in them. There's just not enough time left unless the Brewers or Padres implode.

If they can get bullpen relief without giving up anything that's great, but moves needed to happen two months ago.

You're right. Unfortunately, the Brewers have a cakewalk schedule the rest of the way, aside from 10 games against the NL West, so making up 7 games on them is darn near impossible. The Brewers are also making moves to bolster their lineup, and they started doing that with the Adames trade a couple months ago. The only way the Reds make the playoffs is if the Brewers have a couple of their starting pitchers get injured or pull a Trevor Bauer.
