Cincinnati Reds 2018 season (It's that time of year again)

2-11

#121

EDIT

as of close of games 4/13

lowest win % in MLB .154
Tied most losses in MLB 11
Largest run differential in MLB -42

The FG projections are stubbornly holding on to the misplaced belief that the WhiteSox, Tigers and Marlins will all finish worse than the Reds.

I am dubious.

So one week into it and here are some fun numbers.

Team pitching:
  • k/9 6.92, 4th worst in MLB
  • BB/9 5.02, 3rd worst in MLB
  • ERA 6.58, worst in MLB
  • WHIP 1.6, worst in MLB
  • BABIP is only .287, which means they have gotten slightly lucky on balls put in play. It could be worse. Seriously.
Team hitting (or let's be honest, team coming to the plate carrying a bat):
  • ISO .119, T 5th worst in MLB (this is a power measurement and that is the power of a 9 year old girl for reference)
  • they are actually middle of the road in nearly everything else (OBP, walk%, OPS etc)
  • BABIP is .306 which is neutral to slightly lucky
  • I don't know if it's because their games are usually over so fast or what but they only have 226 PA's, 4th lowest in baseball. (MLB leader has 347)
  • As one would expect then with a punchless team that hasn't had many PA's they have the 4th lowest Run total in MLB at 18
They have the worst run differential in MLB at -22 and are tracking for a 91 loss season.

Updated as of games played 4/14 (MLB leading stats are in bold)

Team pitching:
  • k/9 7.57, 7th worst in MLB
  • BB/9 4.51, 4th worst in MLB
  • ERA 6.04, worst in MLB
  • WHIP 1.5, worst in MLB
  • HR allowed 25, most in MLB
  • Runs allowed 89, most in MLB
Team coming to plate with bats in their hands:
  • Runs scored 42, 2nd lowest in MLB
  • OBP .302, 21st in MLB (bottom 1/3rd)
  • ISO, .091, T 2nd worst MLB
  • So they make an out 70% of the time they come to the plate and on the occasions when they don't, they do little to no damage
  • For a fun contrast to the number of HR allowed (25) they have hit a meager 9 HR's of their own.
So combine a punchless, thoroughly mediocre offense with the worst pitching staff in the league and you get the worst record (2-12) withe the worst run diff (-47) of any team in baseball.

They are already at the point where they have to play better than .410 ball over the remaining 148 games to avoid a 100 loss season.

2-13

When Billy Hamilton comes to the plate for you, 2 on, 2 out bottom 9 down by a run....you are pretty much fucked.

He went 1-5 today and raised his batting average
