Cincinnati Reds 2018 season (It's that time of year again)

Nice bullpen outing tonight

It was impressive

Lost decade worthy

11 hitters to the plate, 7 runs allowed, 5 consecutive walks and 2 runs walked in...at one point the 3rd pitcher in the inning had thrown over 30 pitches.

I think Price had to use 3 of his 6 mound visits in that one inning alone

literally looked like a badly pitched middle school game

I went to one of my son's middle school games a couple years back.. I can't recall who they played, but the kid - who apparently was their only option - they faced in this one game..... high off the backstop one pitch, not able to get it to the plate the next.... WIDE left.. WIDE right..... it was grueling. Poor kid walked 11 before he threw his first strike. Fortunately, in middle school they have mercy rules.

At that level they have the added coping mechanism of umpires who want to go the fuck home.

So they start calling what I refer to as a "skill appropriate strike zone", meaning they will mercifully get the kid off the mound well before 5 straight walks or 7 runs.

Unfortunately for those who are sent into combat at the MLB level well before they are ready, there are no mercy rules or skill appropriate strike zones.

There is nothing but a tiny box of pain and guys with bats in their hands who are really, really good at inflicting it.

Price and the reds braintrust could very well have ruined two young guys with excellent stuff last night.

Quite right about the "skill appropriate zone" Was probably that same game, there was a pitch to my kid which was absolutely a ball. It was called a strike, and my kid looks over at me and gives me the old "what the fuck" hand gesture. I said something like, "now you know the strike zone" or whatever. Later, I had to explain to him that the umpire didn't suck, the pitcher did, and dinner was getting cold for everyone. Those games aren't fun for anyone, that's for sure... and it also runs the risk of teaching kids to swing at really shitty pitches... but... the kids who might end up playing something more than recreationally understand what a hittable pitch is.

Well, unless they call GAB home. Yeesh.

No mercy for the in over his head guy, and no mercy for long suffering fans like yourself..

True - It's criminal what they've done and to so many.

I was lucky, when I became a baseball fan I was living on Long Island and had the Yankees... Reggie Jackson, Chris Chamblis, Bucky Dent, Greg Nettles, Willie Randolph, Mickey Rivers, Thurman Munson, Ron Guidry and Tug McGraw... OTOH, you guys did have Rose, Foster, Griffey, Bell, Concepcion, Chicken Wing, Bench, Tom Seaver and the like...

In any case, may the current brass choke on the drool of schottzie... and I don't mean her dog.

Then what the fuck you doing in this thread all the time?

Life is hard enough. Don't add Reds fandom to it unless you have to my friend.

I just enjoy the commentary. I had the chance to be a Reds fan, didn't take. When I moved to Ohio, Chicken Wing and Rose where in Philly along with Schmidt and Steve Carlton, among others.... in fact... maybe I misplaced ... I did... Tug was a Philly... Yankee closer was Goose Gossage... anyway I adopted the Phillies instead. Having been to Philadelphia for a concert in 1988, I can say picking Philly as a place to be a fan of was a mistake. But, they did have Dr. J and Dr. Dunkenstein on the Sixers and the Eagles made the Super Bowl in 1980... I was young and impressionable... what can I say.

You needed the money. All that needs to be said.

Well if you ever want to come watch your adopted Philly sports teams, let me know.

We'll have a few drinks, try to stay out of riots and jail best we can.
Just keep me away from a 76 station near I-70 I'd know it if I saw it. Long story.... Let's just leave it as a missing oil cap, a Ped Stater who lived in a mountain, and a giant rain storm for now.

Oh, It was Daryl Dawkins not Dr. Dunkenstein... Forgot about Mo Cheeks...
