Cincinnati Bengals (Same Ole Bengals)

Tyreek Hill calls out Eli Apple ahead of Dolphins-Bengals game: 'I owe you, boy'

Thursday Night Football is shaping up to be a showdown this week between Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill and Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Eli Apple. When reporters informed Hill that the 3-0 Dolphins are set to play the 1-2 Bengals on Thursday, the former Oklahoma State star harkened back to last season’s AFC Championship Game, where he battled with Apple throughout the game as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.

“That’s going to be lit,” Hill said of the impending matchup on Amazon Prime. “I’m looking forward to the challenge. It’s going to be fun. I can’t wait to go against Eli Apple. I owe you, boy. I owe you. I’m here. The cheetah is here. Let’s eat.”

Hill may be looking to exact revenge for a particular play from the AFC title game. With Kansas City up 21-10 in the second quarter, Apple made a crucial open-field tackle on Hill, preventing him from scoring and stretching the Chiefs’ lead to three scores at halftime. The Bengals came back in the second half, winning the game, 27-24, earning a trip to the Super Bowl.

Cincinnati Bengals DBs say they have Eli Apple's back for matchup with Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins

On Tuesday, Bengals safety Jessie Bates III said Apple has the support of his teammates.

"(If) somebody comes after Eli, he comes after all of us," Bates said. "We're all up for the challenge."

The veteran safety said that he wasn't surprised with Hill's comments about Apple.

"I don't know if Eli got him tickets to the Super Bowl last year or not," Bates said. "I think that's probably why he's a little upset."

On the final play of the first half of the AFC title game in Kansas City, Apple tackled Hill short of the goal line, preventing Kansas City from extending its 21-10 lead. Cincinnati completed the comeback and eventually won the game in overtime 27-24, clinching the franchise's first Super Bowl berth since 1989.

"It must have still been in his head a little bit, obviously, if he brought it up," Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton told reporters. "We're not with all the talking. We're just going to go out there and handle our business on Thursday."

Reader is going to miss several games, fuck. Don't really have a contingency plan, especially after Ogunjobi left. I guess it's a thoughts and prayers type of situation at DT...not really sure what the backup plan is here...maybe Carter has to grow up quickly? I like the kid, but was hoping we wouldn't need him until next year. Plus he's a 3-tech and not a run stuffer. Unfortunately it looks like we need him now.

Imagine if the Bengals had a 2 point lead on that 4th and goal…. Makes your decision a little easier. That being said, trying to play smashmouth football on three straight plays is equally as stupid. But that’s what we’re stuck with…

Nice win tonight! For as bad as they’ve looked in stretches, they could so easily be 4-0 right now. Just need to keep building on this and getting better!

That's what I'm focusing on. Many wins (and losses) in the NFL are ugly, it's a competitive league. It's really a situation where we should honestly be 4-0 right now. Or at least 3-1, should've beat the Steelers without a fluke injury, Cowboys we just wet the bed on. But the best thing about being 2-2 is the chance to go 3-2?

I'm damn happy to just get the win at home. All white unis were as sick as could be and I would just keep them moving forward, or at least the helmets. Stadium was rocking, glad to see the support. Defense played a hell of a game, that was a tough task and the defense won the game tonight. Our Vonn Bell played like a true Buckeye and is seriously maybe the most underrated safety in the league, dude can play.

But the large elephant in the room is that we can't run the ball and our offensive play calling is downright atrocious. Awful, awful play calls for the first 4 weeks on about 80% of the plays. Howard goes down and you can't figure it out to throw it to 3 of the best WRs in the league? I get trying to establish the run in the first half given the struggles, but once you need to win the game and have a clear advantage throwing the ball, fucking do that. The offensive side of the ball needs a real come to Jesus and it ain't the players, it's the coaches. If they don't stop outthinking themselves, we'll have several more losses than we should. Coach Lou and the defensive side can only do so much, offense get your house in order fast.

I like where we're at though, team is clearly talented and can make a run again. Especially like a long rest period before Baltimore, who has to face a pissed off Bills team on Sunday. Despite a bad start, we can salvage this with some focus.
