Cincinnati Bearcats (Juggalos official thread of Faygo)

OK, having been on the juggalo boards enjoying my tears for the last two weeks, I have a serious question. Is your fanbase that fucking delusional? Other than the ranting and raving about Tuberville, there are two main themes that seem to have emerged, and both are crazy as fuck.

First, is the ingrained and unquestioned belief that UC is poised to be some major player in football. On what basis? You caught lightening in a bottle by making a couple of good hires in a row while competing in a conference that was BCS in name only. And that is literally the extent of UC's football history. 41 weeks in the AP poll over 88 years and only 1 top-10 finish, and 90% of that happened during the aforementioned window.

Second, they all seem to be saying that now is the time for UC to double down on spending. You're fucking broke. Your athletic subsidy has consistently been one of the highest in the country ($27M last year). You have a nearly unsustainable debt load going back to Zimpher, and whatever donor base you have is probably pretty tapped out after Varsity Village, the stadium renovation and now the arena renovation. Where is the fucking money going to come from to chase these dreams of big time sports? More from the students? More from the state? More debt? The B12 money ain't happening, and that cabfare that the Big East left on the counter for you on your way out is about to run out. The university's overall debt load is larger than its annual budget. In comparison, at Ohio State and OU the percentage is slightly under 50%. Your debt to budget ratio is similar to Akron's which is a financial basket case.

Seriously, the state saved that school from insolvency once, and I sincerely hope that it isn't going to be called on to do it again. I also hope that you hire a serious President capable of taking a realistic look at the university's position and setting some realistic goals for it rather than just pumping sunshine up everybody's ass for three years before lighting out of town.

Yes, the majority are that delusional. I am certainly in the very small minority that sees the football program for what it is. I also wanted Bob Huggins ousted 5 years before Nancy Zimpher had the balls to do it. The program is where it needs to be. Above the MAC but below he power 5. The alumni dollars just aren't there to expect a move.

Doubling down on spending is stupid. The school had some very fine programs that are very well respected in their fields but are losing educators, facilities and funding at unreal rates that seeking more athletic upgrades is embarrassing. Dr. Steger was the initiator of the debt that Zimpher added to. But with Zimpher and the UC 21 program the schools academic profile actually got better.

I have no idea where these fools think the money is going to come from. I know my money, what little I have set aside for donating, doesn't go to UC. I give it to my daughter's high school. I used to give to UC and my youngest daughter is taking classes at CCM as a high school freshman. But the sheer focus on sports for spending is out of control. It's fine when you have a ton of big money donating alumni or 110k sold out stadium every Saturday to be self sufficient. UC is the epitomy of the people who live beyond their means because they want to be someone they're not.

At the end of the day, it's still my alma mater and I hope they get things figured out.
Make no mistake, though. When the old lady and I hit the power ball our first check is going to Columbus to the cancer research center.

Dont let a coaching search distract from the fact that the Jugalos went 4-8 and 1-7 (Lol!!!) in the AAC.

The only Ohio FBS team that finished with a worse record was Kent State at 3-9
