If I have a second favorite CBB program, it's Butler. Great program, great fans.
Ok, Henry. If I have a second favorite CBB program, it's Butler. Great program, great fans.
Well, make no mistake where my loyalty resides. But, I always find myself watching and rooting for Butler when they're on television. Been fond of them since Stevens took his scrappy teams to back-to-back title games. What is this "second favorite" thing of which you speak?
I go back to the Joel Cornette (RIP), Brandon Miller, Darnell Archey and beyond.Well, make no mistake where my loyalty resides. But, I always find myself watching and rooting for Butler when they're on television. Been fond of them since Stevens took his scrappy teams to back-to-back title games.

Oh sure, fine. But how were they on inbound plays?FT shooting has been a pet-peeve of mine for several years now.
The past two years, Butler has shot (overall/vs. Conf)
74.1 / 76.6 (55th Nationally)
73.1 / 73.5 (52nd Nationally)
By comparison, tOSU the last five years:
68.2 / 66.4 (249th)
68.4 / 68.5 (234th)
68.0 / 63.9 (229th)
68.9 / 70.1 (206th)
70.8 / 70.2 (126th)
Why hasn't Gene mandated and engineered a social media presence for all OSU sports across the board?THIS:

...will be HUGE going forward. In today's world, I was always baffled by the lack of a social media presence by the tOSU hoops staff. Especially given the success the football program has had.
Midway through Thursday afternoon, after it had become obvious neither Xavier’s Chris Mack nor Cincinnati’s Mick Cronin would become the next head men’s basketball coach at Ohio State, I texted Butler’s Chris Holtmann and asked if the Buckeyes had wised up enough to give him a call.
He replied: “Always appreciate your support. Thank you man. Let’s talk soon.”
Nah I think the team had just given up plus poor coaching. They weren't the most talented bunch but no way they should have lost to the likes Florida Atlantic and Rutgers. There were also some winnable games in there that the Buckeyes lost like @ Virginia when they were up by 18, @ Illinois, @ Purdue, Northwester, Maryland, at home to Nebraska. I think this team could win 20 wins next year and get something like an 8-seed depending on how things shake out.Well, I think this was as good of a hire as we could get given the timing of everything. As furious as I am at GS for not doing this sooner and keeping Archie Miller in Ohio, I am nonetheless excited to see what Holtmann can do here and will certainly be patient to see what results he can get. Who knows, maybe Miller tanks at IU and Holtmann thrives...I think both will have at least some decent level of success but it will be interesting to watch. I think Holtmann is going to at least give us a watchable season this year, but I don't even think Coach K could get the 2017-18 team to sniff a chance at the tourney. However, if he can bring in some top level recruits and keep some key targets in-state, the 2018-19 team could be very fun to watch. It will be a process but I am excited to see what Coach Holtmann brings to the table. Welcome aboard coach!
Here is a brief article from Rivals basketball on the recruiting implications of the hire and Eric Bossi's opinion that this was a very good hire.
I agree, with better coaching last year, they probably should have been a tournament team. But this year? They lost their top three scorers, top rebounder and only established post presence. They're gonna have to rely on a pair of freshman for interior scoring, and have razor thin depth. They can barely put together a 5 on 5 scrimmage. It's gonna take a helluva coaching job to get to 20 wins.Nah I think the team had just given up plus poor coaching.
