Chris Ash (Secondary Coach Jacksonville Jaguars)

Scout$--Chris Ash: Defensive Philosophy

Expect a return to the Cover 4 pressure scheme...more press from the corners, heavy safety run support, and an unpredictable 3rd down front look (4 down, 3 down, zero down).

So you think it was right to stop giving Hyde the ball against MSU at 7 YPC?

No. But I also don't know as much as Herman/Meyer as to why plays were called like they were. Was Hyde hurt? It apeared as if he might have been more than a couple of times. I would wonder why they keep going with Miller, if he was hurt. But again, that is the decision to be made by Meyer. Do I know more than him, or Herman, or Fickel? Despite what a lot of those who post over here think about themselves, I don't.

People are really questioning Ash's recruiting as if Urban Meyer ever hires bad recruiters? Really?

This. Plus I really am not too concerned...even if Ash is not an ace, Johnson Sr., Fickell, and Coombs are all phenomenal recruiters. I echo other posters in saying my primary concern is too coach up the talent we already have.

When Meyer got here, it seems, he looked at the talent level and didn't like what he saw. Not that it was bad, just that it wasn't where he wanted it to be. So, at that point in time, being an ace recruiter was "more important" to his plan than raw coaching ability. Now, the talent level is closer to where he wants it, so he's getting people who can coach it up. I'm speculating here, but it makes sense to me. Goals change, is all I'm saying.

I don't mean to imply that Ash is not a excellent recruiter, nor that Meyer is "giving in" on one for the other. You can have both, of course, and I'd imagine that's what Meyer wants.

It's a good point, and if true, would lend itself to the notion that UFM is here for the long haul.

I've always thought that as well. Never voiced it.

I also thought it was a reason behind all the redshirts. But, I'm a conspiracy theorist.
