Chicago Bears (official thread)

Bears' Nick Foles to start at quarterback vs. Seahawks with Justin Fields still dealing with ankle injury

Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Justin Fields is nursing an ankle injury, and has been officially listed as questionable to play vs. the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. He was a limited participant in practice Wednesday but sat out Thursday and Friday. In fact, head coach Matt Nagy has already ruled out him starting, and will instead put Nick Foles under center in Week 16, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

After living in Chicago for 8 years (...how tf did that happen) I'm somewhat invested in what they do with this decision especially with Justin showing some flashes in the rookie season

Priorities are:
  1. Anyone but Harbaugh for the love of God or all goodwill from drafting Fields is gone and I go back to being NFL agnostic
  2. Keep your hands off Day
  3. Brian Flores would give a nice bump and quickly instill a more winning-adjacent culture; but need to pair with a good OC/QB whisperer
  4. Doug Pederson's offense could be interesting with Chicago's QB/RB/TE options
  5. Meh

The Bears chose to sign Siemian over Dalton. I guess it makes good "salary cap" sense.

The Chicago Bears signed quarterback Trevor Siemian to a two-year deal worth $4 million with incentives that could bring it to $5 million, his agent Mike McCartney said. Siemian was with the New Orleans Saints from November 2020 through last season, appearing in six games and starting four in 2021 after not seeing game action the prior season. He is set to back up Bears starter Justin Fields, as the team could look to trade fellow quarterback Nick Foles.

Just sayin': Apparently the Bears have no interest in resigning Andy Dalton. Since he is still an unsigned free agent, maybe nobody else does either.

Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields' 'leadership has taken a step,' teammates say

Justin Fields is a new man for the Chicago Bears. The former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback was able to truly take command of the offense and the team in its entirety throughout OTAs and minicamp. Going into Year 2, it could be a much better outcome for the former Heisman Trophy contender. Veteran guard Cody Whitehair already noticed some changes in the way Fields operates as a leader.

"His leadership has taken a step," Whitehair said, via the team’s website. "And that just comes with him being more comfortable from Year 1 to Year 2, [having] a little bit more experience, seeing things a second time or third time or fourth time, and he's only going to continue to grow.

“When he comes in to enunciate the play or give us what we need to know to get out there and execute the play, it's just a lot more smooth," Whitehair. "He says it with more confidence, and I think that's just him developing from Year 1 to Year 2. We like where Justin is at and we're really excited for the year."

Chicago mayor recommends potential Soldier Field dome, renovations to keep Bears downtown, per reports

The team is otherwise poised to relocate to Arlington Heights

The Bears are positioned for a future relocation from downtown Chicago to the suburb of Arlington Heights in order to build a new "world-class" stadium. But Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is proposing the city make its own renovations to keep the team in town. A mayoral committee is set to recommend Chicago "explore the feasibility" of adding a dome to Soldier Field, the Bears' longtime open-air stadium, along with other significant updates to the historic venue, per Crain's Chicago Business.
.
.
.
The Bears can exit their Soldier Field lease in 2026, and the team last fall finalized a purchase agreement for the Arlington International Racecourse, a 326-acre property in Arlington Heights, with eyes on construction of an entirely new complex. Last renovated in 2002, Soldier Field is an iconic destination among NFL venues because of its history, but it also has the smallest capacity (61,500) of any current stadium. The Arlington Heights area would conceivably also give the Bears room to expand their stadium into a multipurpose entertainment complex.

This is a BRUTAL blow for former Ohio State Buckeyes star Justin Fields...

Chicago Bears WR N'Keal Harry suffers 'significant leg injury' at practice

Chicago Bears wide receiver N'Keal Harry suffered what is believed to be a significant leg injury during Sunday's training camp practice, according to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler. Bears coach Matt Eberflus did not know the extent of Harry’s injury, but the first-year Chicago wideout and former first-round pick out of Arizona State needed to helped off of the field by trainers and teammates, per multiple reports.

A first-round pick in the 2019, Harry spent his first three seasons in the NFL with the New England Patriots. A two-time, first-team All-Pac-12 selection while in college, Harry had 598 yards and four touchdowns during his stint with the Patriots. Harry requested a trade last year and was dealt to Chicago in mid-July.
