Chicago Bears (official thread)

Huh?

They had to take the time out. The clock would have started on the ready to play signal after the measurement. And clearly that FG kicker very nearly has the leg to hit that kick - it just didn't quite sneak over the crossbar.

You need to see the other angle of the kick, it was probably 10 yards short. It was some weird optical illusion that made it look like it hit the crossbar. Fwiw.

as bad as the officiating was last night (full disclosure - I'm a Steelers fan and I will admit the officials sucked - but by now, if you watch a game and expect the officials to be any better than awful, you're just not paying attention - but that is another rant entirely) - the announcers were worse. Brian Griese has no business being behind a mic, let alone doing MNF.

When the Bears scored to tie the game late in the 4th, he suggested that they should consider going for 2. After a few seconds of stunned silence from the other two guys, he came back and changed his tune, saying they should definitely kick the PAT.

When Cassious Marsh picked up the taunting penalty, Griese said that he was all the way out at the hash, and was only staring at the Steelers bench - that he wasn't saying anything. Well, replay showed that he was actually damn near to the numbers, and the ref was in a much better position to hear what he was saying that Grease-ball was. One little tidbit that might have been relevant to point out - Marsh was with the Steelers most of (if not all of) last season. Whether or not the call was ticky-tacky (admittedly, it was), you'd have to be a moron not to know that the NFL has been trying to reduce the amount of taunting and shit. You can't put yourself or your team in any position

When the Steelers were driving for the winning fg, they completed a 8 or 9 yd pass to set up 2nd and short. Ben spiked the ball in an attempt to catch Chicago with 12 men on the field. Turns out it was a dumb play by Roethlisberger, because it stopped the clock without forcing Chicago to use their final time out. They ran that dumbass qb read option on 3rd & short and didn't get it, so then they had to kick the fg with 0:30 on the clock instead of milking it down to the final seconds. (This would eventually give Fields and the Bears' Offense and chance to win it in the end. A long pass play down the sideline was barely off the WRs fingers. Had he caught it, the Bears would've kicked a short fg to win it.) Of course, Griese was all too eager to give Ben all the credit for being so aware and savvy to get up to the line to spike the ball and stop the clock, saving those valuable seconds.

The final fg try by the bears was well short - but the announcers - Tirico, I think - went crazy saying that it hit the cross bar.

This was only 4 quick inaccuracies that I noticed. I'm sure there were many, many others.

To be fair, that view from behind the end zone that we all saw definitely made it look like it hit the crossbar.

Agreed..... and if Tirico and the rest of the morons were sitting at home watching on TV, I'd be a little bit more accepting of the miscall. But, they were actually in the stadium, and from their viewpoint along the sidelines, it should have been very clear that it was well short. Since it wasn't obvious to them, I can only assume they were simply staring at their monitors instead of watching the live action on the field. And if all they're doing is watching the game on TV like we are, they're really not necessary. I can find my own group of idiots to watch the game on tv and make stupid comments.
