Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

One last point - do you think this is any way to decide your play-calling.

Sounds more like a Movie script than a play-chart. Frankly, I find it somewhat disturbing that Weis wanted to create a "Disney" moment for the mourning Hughes.

I guess that if one were to take a very cynical viewpoint, you could argue that he lost the team and used an inconsequential player's brother's death to try to get back in the team's good graces. I find him too vile to actually think that I could fairly judge him.

Whilr NBC was running a promo for their Army high school All-American game, they mentioned that Ntre Ame currently has 21 guys on their roster that had attented that game.

Obviously the Lemming selection factor inflates what those numbers should be, but it shows that Chuck has some talent on the team - he just has done a terrible job of developing them and getting them to play as a team.

This should open some folks eyes (recruits that is) at the beyond pathetic job that His Vastness does at developing talent, which should, and thanks to Lemming's perpetual hard on for ND and the inflation selection factor for the All-American game, hurt recruiting to some degree.

He will, X's are losses, O's are victories.

XXXXXOXXX???

Looks like he's got 8 X's and 1 O!

I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate my utter hatred for UCLA right now....0-12 would have been so glorious, ND fans would never have been allowed to forget it. Don't get me wrong, 1-11 has a nice ring to it for the Domers, but 0-12 would be amazing

Watch ND win one more game and their fans bitch that they should be in the NC thanks to their amazing SOS

Speaking of X's and L's (losses), anybody care to venture a guess what size sweatshirt Charlie is wearing? It looks pretty large on him.

Charlie Weis, AP

XXXXXXXXXXXL (1-11) :slappy:

Thornton Melon: [television commercial in "Back To School"] Hi there. Are you a large person? Pleasantly plump? A little on the hefty side, perhaps? Well, let's face it: Are you FAT? When you go jogging, do you leave pot-holes? When you make love, do you have to give directions? At the zoo, do the elephants throw YOU peanuts? Do you look at a menu and say 'OK'? Well, now, you can eat all you want, because at Thornton Melon's "Tall & Fat" stores, we've got you covered. That's right. Fine woolen, and woolen-blend suits and sport coats, in all the larger sizes - husky, stout, extra-stout, and the new Hindenburg line. And for you ladies we have caftans, muumuus, and our own exclusive A-frame in all colors and patterns. Yes, we have miles and miles of fabric. So take it from me, Thornton Melon, if you want to look thin, you hang out with fat people.

"Weis has lost virtually every big game he has coached in with the Irish. Why isn't he on the way out? And I don't want to hear about his lengthy and costly contract. You telling me that a school like Notre Dame can't find the money?
I know when Willingham was let go, it was a decision out of the hands of athletic director Kevin White, who wanted to give his coach more time."

If Notre Dame can't find the money, maybe NBC will. Another year like this and they'll lose the NY market on Saturdays.

Some rare pickings -

ND Observer 9-3 is not good enough

When no kick is a Kick in the ....MSNBC

The above is a particularly good read.

Lake County News - Weis Has Hit Rockne Bottom

Weis has hit Rockne Bottom

DISMISS ALL PREVIOUS thoughts that Charlie Weis might leave Notre Dame at season's end. Truth be told, there isn't a serious football operation that would have him. What once was America's most prestigious college program is now a 1-8 wreck that seems too far gone for repair, with Rockne Bottom coming in a triple-overtime home loss to Navy that ended a 43-game win streak over the Midshipmen.
After nine games, you'd like to see some sort of improvement from Weis' talent base. But I'm afraid the man is overrated as a teacher and has been exposed as a coach who rode the coattails of Bill Belichick and Bill Parcells. Honestly, having watched the Irish offense, we wonder if Weis didn't make Tom Brady as much as Tom Brady and the New England system made Weis. Remember, before taking the job, Weis had only one year of head coaching experience -- at a New Jersey high school. The various priests and CEOs who ran off Tyrone Willingham after a 6-5 season now must explain how Weis has job security. The answer, of course, is that Weis owns a $40 million contract extension through 2015, which right now ranks among the worst deals in the history of humankind. As it is, Notre Dame hasn't been NOTRE DAME since the early 1990s, and Weis is in danger of alienating a new generation of national prep talent that looks at the Golden Dome and holds its nose. In a way, the arrogant, shellshocked Domers and The Weis Guy deserve each other.

And also from the normally rah-rah ND Observer - Weis ignores history of the loss

The difference between Weis and Johnson, though, is their view of the past. Johnson is trying to break away from it and establish a new legacy in Annapolis; Weis has made a habit of trying to relate with Notre Dame's history.

And he certainly has shown a wonderful ability to connect with the past. Weis will go down in history as the coach of the Notre Dame team that suffered its worst loss to rival USC. The coach of the Notre Dame team who lost seven straight games. The coach of the Notre Dame team who had the worst start in school history. The coach of the Notre Dame team whose starting quarterback on opening day was benched by halftime of the first game. The coach of the Notre Dame team who was shut out by 38 points twice and entered its final three games with the worst offense in the nation.

And, oh, by the way, the coach of the first Notre Dame team in 44 years to lose to Navy.

In the magnitude of sheer awfulness, Weis has put Tyrone Willingham and Bob Davie to shame.

Then again, he probably doesn't care.

All Charlie Weis cares about is beating Air Force.

The good news is that all of you will have 2 1/4 years to whine about Weis because that is the minimum that he will be at ND. After all the grief that ND has taken over Ty do you think for a minute that they are going to do the same for Weis? DUH. That is why they gave him an extension to 10 years.
Enjoy Boys!! :biggrin::slappy:

No, Weis already told us we have to laugh now, because next year will be different. He plans on winning 2 or 3 games.

From the NBC article:
Notre Dame players were adamant on Saturday that Navy's snapping of the 43-game win streak meant little to them. Over and over different Irish players (e.g., Tom Zbikowski, John Carlson, Sam Young) reiterated that the difference in the outcome of the triple-overtime thriller was that "Navy made one more play than we did."
Wow, he's really got the talking points down with the team.

And I love how he threw his kicker under the bus, essentially saying the kid couldn't make a 41 yarder. And yet recruits are still signing up to play for this guy. Sure there's playing time to be had, but you can find that at Buffalo or Temple too, and win more it seems.

You know damn well that, if he had converted that 4th down play, going for it would have nothing to do with the kicker and everything to do with Charlie's playcalling and scheming. If it succeeds, it's schematic advantage; if it fails, somehow make it the player's fault.

I can't help but believe that numerous recruits aren't watching him and reevaluating their commitments. Not a single one of these kids has signed a damned thing yet, and if they do choose to go and play for a man like that (and horrible coach to boot), they'll be getting what they deserve because it won't be like they didn't have ample warning.

I really do feel bad for the kids though... yes Charlie is an ass and not the genius he is supposed to be but this country is so damn enamored with ND that its ridiculous. They are the most loved and hated team in America. Unfortunately this means that the other 119 (Counting WKU) universities have to deal with not having that talent out there... On the bright side that talent won't be scary as it's not in the hands of a coach who knows what to do... or not swallow his food whole.
