Ty - 21 - 15 (wost season 5 - 7)

Which guy do you give the big 10 year deal?
Hmmm the real question is "do I care"? I may have to think about that. I would suppose that if I were a Charlie fan or a Ty fan I might care, or even if I were a ND fan. But alas since I am not a fan of any of those I guess I would have to say that O don't care what ND does or to who.
I only care about Me , My Buckeyes , and my wife. And since I don't think that ND is going to give any of those ten mill. then I would have to say Who cares?

Whilr NBC was running a promo for their Army high school All-American game, they mentioned that Ntre Ame currently has 21 guys on their roster that had attented that game.

Obviously the Lemming selection factor inflates what those numbers should be, but it shows that Chuck has some talent on the team - he just has done a terrible job of developing them and getting them to play as a team.

Let's really think about it. We have no offense. The line, receivers and sharpley are awful. We just have a lot of good RB's. Our defense is decent. I have no reason to believe that if Corwin was our DC last year our D would be any better. Our D has simply been the bright spot in this black hole of a season. On top of all this, our head coach is a disaster. I have always been on the Weis bandwagon, but not running the ball, our kicking in regulation is enough to get a coach fired. At what point do we cut our losses and get rid of Weis. So what if he can recruit, his offense is awful, and his player development and refusal to delegate coaching responsibility is the sign of a terrible leader. I think that if we were all reasonable and looked at this program without bias we would realize that this is rock bottom, and Ty helped to put us here, but we are here with Weis, he has a HUGE role in this, and that should not be excused. Yes KW needs to go and the NBC telecast sucks, but that is the least of our problems. Today I seriously considered that in 20 years, I will not be rooting for an ND football team to beat SC or UM, I will be rooting for them to beat our Ivy league rivals. This football program, and athletic program are under the leadership of people in over their heads. I do not have an answer to fix it, nor do I think anyone here does. It is by far too complex. A complete overhaul is in order or I am afraid that the University, the thing that all of us love the most, is in serious danger. If the football team goes down the tubes, the structure of the university will aswell. This football team is too important to the school, its fans, alums and subways to let this continue, or else we face a dramatic change in the landscape of ND in the next 20-30 years.

Weis Defends Calls as Boos Rain Down

SOUTH BEND – As the Notre Dame band played The 1812 Overture, usually a praising of an Irish coach, Notre Dame students booed.
The Irish (1-8) had just lost to Navy, 46-44 in three overtimes, for the first time since 1963, and frustration went over.
"Streak doesn't mean anything to me," Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said. "I mean, this is – we lost to Navy. That's who we lost to."

You'd better believe Streak means a lot to ND fans ....

Notre Dame had its chances.
The Irish could have attempted a 41-yard field goal with 45 seconds left. Instead, the Irish went for it, and Evan Sharpley was sacked.
"It was going against the wind and in practice, he couldn't make it from there," Weis said. "That's why we didn't kick it from there. That was a pretty simple one."
In the first quarter, the Irish had a 37-yard field goal attempt from a fourth-and-15. Instead, Notre Dame faked the kick, and Sharpley gained one-third of what he needed to prolong the drive.
Navy proceeded to go on a 19-play, 85-yard drive that ended in a Zerbin Singleton touchdown.
They were only two plays, but they potentially took six points away from Notre Dame.

No kicker capable of a 41-yard strike?

So much for recruiting acumen.

One last point - do you think this is any way to decide your play-calling.
Robert Hughes scored the first touchdown of Notre Dame's 46-44 triple-overtime loss to Navy on Saturday less than 24 hours after describing his brother's funeral as ''the saddest day of my life.'' Hughes described Earl ''Tony'' Hughes, 24, as his ''best friend and role model'' at Friday's funeral, which was attended by approximately 50 of Hughes' teammates, five members of the coaching staff and athletic director Kevin White, among others.
Hughes' brother was shot to death Tuesday on the West Side.
Hughes was mobbed by teammates in the end zone after scoring on a three-yard run in the first quarter. Hughes then hugged coach Charlie Weis before being congratulated by virtually all of his teammates.
''He was going to get [the ball] every play until he got into the end zone,'' Weis said.
Sounds more like a Movie script than a play-chart. Frankly, I find it somewhat disturbing that Weis wanted to create a "Disney" moment for the mourning Hughes.

That's just Weis being Weis. He wanted to create another "pass right" moment, so that he could have plopped his jabbaesque ass in front of every television camera that came calling. Now he's out playing up the humanitarian angle to any in the press that's willing to listen.

BTW, the domer Scout board has their head even farther up their ass than Rivals.

I have no problem with Hughes getting the TD or the playcalling for it. I'm happy for the guy (I hate ND, but life is bigger than college football). I'll bash Weis till I can't bash him anymore, but at least Hughes got a TD

The good news is that all of you will have 2 1/4 years to whine about Weis because that is the minimum that he will be at ND. After all the grief that ND has taken over Ty do you think for a minute that they are going to do the same for Weis? DUH. That is why they gave him an extension to 10 years.
Enjoy Boys!! :biggrin::slappy:

A Blogger's Case Against Weis

Navy Blues

The last time Navy beat Notre Dame was 1963.Roger Staubach won the Heisman Trophy. President Kennedy was alive. The Vietnam War was only a rumor. Woodstock and the moon landing were six years off.
It happened again this weekend.
I'm proud to have served in the Army, but I root for all the all Service Academy teams—especially against bullies like the Irish.
Love or hate Notre Dame, though, you have to agree it's time for a change at the top.
I don't care how big his contract is—Charlie Weis has run a once-proud program into the ground. Ty Willingham never lost to any Service Academy—much less Navy.
Even Gerry Faust, the most maligned head coach in Irish history, never fell that far.
In choosing not to go for a field goal at the end of regulation, Weis staked his job on a fourth-down conversion.
His team failed—and now he must go.

Time for Weis to Go
Notre Dame lost to Navy yesterday in South Bend. Yes, you read that right.

After 44 years, Navy beat the Irish. Now that is news.

So is the fact that Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis made multiple suspect calls in the three-overtime loss (though he did make some classy moves at the start and end of the game). Oh, and don't forget Notre Dame is now 1-8 in 2007. Now, you may know all of the above already but apparently, those at Notre Dame and in the national media do not.

How is it that Weis has had, what I consider, a pass this season? This is an absolute disaster of a season. I know what Notre Dame lost going into this season, but 1-8? The national media should be calling for his head and the Notre Dame administrators should be huddling about buyouts. Tyrone Willingham was fired after just three seasons, with a record of 21-15.

In his third and final season, Willingham went 6-5 and it cost him his job. Weis is 20-14 in his three seasons and 1-8 in his third year. And keep in mind, Weis has lost virtually every big game he has coached in with the Irish. Why isn't he on the way out? And I don't want to hear about his lengthy and costly contract. You telling me that a school like Notre Dame can't find the money?
I know when Willingham was let go, it was a decision out of the hands of athletic director Kevin White, who wanted to give his coach more time. But White was overruled. Maybe they should have listened.

Look, I know that building a program takes time and three years is not a lot to give a coach. But fair is fair. If three years is too long for Willingham, then it's too long for Weis. Maybe race plays a role? Doesn't it seem obvious? Or does Weis being an NFL guru shy away critics? I don't know what the answer is.

I do know that while my national media colleagues are quick to hammer Mike Gundy after his postgame tirade, quick to throw Dennis Franchione under the bus, quick to talk about a needed change at UCLA, they seem awfully quiet about criticizing Weis and calling for his ouster. Maybe a loss to Navy will do it. Probably not.
