Weis is still unproven as a college football head coach. What we do know, is that he has not been able to win the big games yet, but that he recruits and talks a mean game.
How long he will be able to live on his experiences as an assistant coach in the NFL also remains unclear.
This year is a bit of a bellweather year for Chuck. Most of the players on the field will be his recruits. Like the Buckeyes, the QB situation is a real question mark. Unlike the Buckeyes, the defense looks to have continued problems, perhaps the worst so far. The Big Ten teams that they are playing also are coming off a run of down years. TSUN and Penn State look good. MSU under Dantonio will be tougher. USC is an almost certain loss and a couple of close ones upfront in the schedule against good but not great teams could go against Weis if the QB situation doesn't get traction fast.
There is a very real possibility that ND lose four or more games this year. If so, look for the recruiting skills to diminish and for his halo to disappear in the press as writers look for excuses to explain their liplock on his derrier since he arrived at ND.
