Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

I am certainly not comparing Charlie to these guys but not all of the great coach's got off to a fantastic start there first 2 years.

Woody Hayes 10-6-2
Joe Paterno 13-7-1
Bobby Bowden 15-8

Charlie 19-6

OK, playing your game with the coaches you selected -

Years 3 and 4:

Hayes: 16-3, with a National Championship
Paterno: 22-0
Bowden: 19-4 (this is years 3/4 at FSU, you ignored his Samford/W. Va years)

Combined: 57-7 (.891), with a National Championship

Weis: ??-??

I'm willing to wager that Weis will lose 7 games over the next 2 seasons (including bowls), or as many games combined as the 3 coaches YOU CHOSE to compare him to.

What do you want to wager?

You are right about the comparison 100%
Turning that team around even the little bit he has is an accomplishment and no one can do that except a coach.
The biggest thing a coach can do is get his players to believe in him and Weis has done that.
so taking a team that was undercoached and playing a bunch of nobodies = turning them around? look past the record and tell me there was any kind of turnaround. this isn't the average school we're talking about....it's NoD, where people fall over themselves trying to give them BCS games. Don't make it seem like they earned either of those trips....and don't make it seem like just because Willingham sucked balls as a coach that Weis is a great one.

And getiing them to win? ABSOLUTELY
That is what a coach does unless he wants to be coaching girls next year.
Davie and Willingham couldn't get that done, could they?
And I never said he is a great coach. In fact several times now I have said that he isn't.

No, it doesn't. Just because Willingham sucked and NoD played NoTeams, it doesn't mean they turned anything around. It means they didn't suck as bad as they did the year before.

If that's a turnaround for you, then cool.

I picked those 3 but I could have picked numerous others that had far less
success as they started out.

Weis constantly adjusts recruiting

With seven months remaining until signing day, Tom Lemming recruiting analyst for CSTV believes this group could be one of Notre Dame's best ever. Why has it happened? Of course, Charlie Weis. But Weis also made some smart, strategic hires. He plucked Rob Ianello away from Wisconsin to serve as his recruiting coordinator. Ianello, also the Irish receivers coach, is known for his organizational skills. The internal operation, which involves matters such as lining up mailings and on-campus visits, would be handled by a pair of ND grads, Dave Peloquin and former Irish QB Ron Powlus. Powlus this season will take over as quarterbacks coach.

"Notre Dame always bounces back," Lemming said. "They're Notre Dame."
