The rumor mill in my part of the world suggests that Michigan is ramping up another run at Les Miles.

All rumors, DickRod isn't going anywhere...yet.

As for the Fat Charlie stuff, I still can't find a credible source anywhere. Seems to be message board speculation. Not saying it isn't true, just can't find a source. I've seen an article cut and pasted, but nobody ever links the source.

In his press conference today, Charlie said that the difference between his actual salary and his reported salary is over $1 million. He told a reporter that he'd show him his tax return if the guy promised to pay the difference. The guy declined, saying he'd never have that much money.

I saw him say it on ESPN News, so there's no link.

I'm sure all of the reporters felt sorry for Cholly if he's only making 3 million instead of 4, or 2.5 instead of 3.5.

What a clueless prick.

He even sucks at deflecting.

I can understand why Brian Kelly would be interested in a bigger program... he's stuck with a 35K stadium, Big East, school with a basketball history...

But getting a coach to leave a top six SEC program, 90K stadiums, strong conference controlled by ADs not U presidents, of the six only Florida has a strong academic rep meaning its easier to bring athletes in and keep them, CBS/soon to be ESPN contract assures team/conference of national/regional coverage of games, higher salaries than Big 10/Pac 10 or Notre Dame are used to paying -- or maybe can pay given potential faculty response -- probably fat radio and tv contracts guaranteed too.

I'm guessing that with the population shifting away from the Midwest and to the South, not to mention the shambles of what was once the manufacturing heart of the US, it may be sometime before the Big 10 will be back to competing with the SEC. Don't know what's going on on the coast, but the only program I see out there that seems to be viewed as a destination instead of a midway point is USC.

In short, I don't think Michigan has the resources to go after Miles and the same is probably true of Notre Dame. Add to that the fact that Stoops could have had the Buckeye job and chose to remain in Norman. Something is telling hot coaches to look elsewhere and who woulda thunk that someone with the talent of Dantonio would not be having a better time in East Lansing? Maybe those three jobs, Michigan, Notre Dame AND Ohio State are not as glamorous as they were say 15 years ago?

Balderdash. tOSU is still a destination job. Coop may have tarnished that somewhat at the end of his tenure, but JT has built it back up. NoD has certainly lost it's luster, but it still has drawing power. scUM, depending on how this whole DickRod saga plays out, still should have drawing power. I recall an article on SI this summer detailing the best jobs out there in CFB and tOSU was in the top-3 (or, as they called it, "the gold standard") with Texas and USC.

I was just getting used to blaming Ty for everything, now it's all Bob Davies fault? Seriously, I think UW would beg to differ.
A lot of students used to blame Bob simply because blaming Ty only instigated racist BS

In truth, none of the last 3 coaches have been better than the other, they've all produced about the same seasons. Davies and Weis recruited better, but it didn't make a lot of difference. It would take a heck of a coach to make this team championship material again I think.

Well, it's a tough gig, who wants those expectations? The best coach in the world would take a few years to get that mess cleaned up, the players are under developed, also, you're faced with the fact that odds are in a good year you're only going to have 2 tests, Michigan and USC, so it's tough to gauge how good you are, especially this year when both scUM and SC are bad.

The real question I have with Weis is if everyone in the country saw how bad he was why did it take this long for the fans and alumni to admit that this was a mistake? There's talent on that team, and if you had gotten rid of tubby last year odds are a few of those close losses would be wins. Sure, you might lose that schematic advantage, but I am sure improved players could make up for it.
