good stuff Chuck, good stuff

Thats good stuff there. You can add wins against (6-3) Nevada, (6-3) Boston College, and (5-5) Michigan State this year. If you consider we only beat one team with a winning record last year, and one team with an even record, we're currently improving! :slappy: Pretty sad, really. Some of those wins we felt pretty good about at the time, like the Michigan win in '05, and Tennessee the same year, only to have both teams turn in crummy performances.

I'm kinda surprised how this season has turned out. People were slobbering all over Michigan at the start, thinking this would be a huge turn around year. Michigan State is usually the team that crumbles halfway through the season, but Michigan has been the one to drop 5 of their last 6. Then USC gets beaten twice, once by a good margin against Oregon and then against a struggling Washington program.

"I have never blamed a player. That's just now how I operate, but this week I have film for you folks that want to fire my ass, film that proves that they're the reason I lost to Navy..." or words to that effect.

A Mount Everest of ego...

I've heard the same. Last season I heard alumni and financial backers investigated the buyout clause and deemed that it wasn't as ridiculous as people originally thought. If they were thinking about it then, I'm sure they're thinking about it now. I think most fans and alumni would have been pleased with a 10-2 record and a good showing in a big bowl, but the way things are headed I don't think we're going to be able to outshoot Pitt, Stanford never rolls over, and Conneticut could give this team a run for their money. Based on the overall team performance and the close games, the Irish have made their schedule look harder than it really is. I'll be surprised if they retain Weis, especially if Clausen and Tate decide to leave. I think both will stay, but if they're out I think his chances of staying are even slimmer.

One thing about ND is that it doesn't lack alums with the ability, and the willingness, to write BIG checks when the futre of "the program" is in the deal.

At this point they would be completely stupid to stay. It could only end badly for both of them. I think Tate is more likely to stay, but I don't think either of them will.

Yeah, if you follow some of his post-game press talks, he never directly calls a player out, but there have been occasions I'm pretty sure he's stopped just short of doing it. This week he came close to calliing out Tausch for missing two FGs in the Navy game that either could have won the game...despite the fact the kid hasn't missed one all season except his first. He's been pretty automatic, and he's a freshman. He never comes out and points the finger right at them, but you can read between the lines sometimes

I think a lot of it will come down to Weis. This season was a let down with the weak schedule, if they oust Weis then I think Jimmy moves on and possibly Golden. If they keep Weis, he might try his hand one final time. They've been competitive in every game they've been in, but they've been in a lot of unnecessarily close games. The O-line is a veteran line this year with a lot of recruits that were sought after. They've improved from last year, and definitly from 2 years ago, but they're still getting drilled by a lot of defensive fronts.

I think you're right about Tate being more likely to stay. I've got good information that Floyd is staying all 4 years regardless, he wants the education and the experience no matter what. He said this as a freshman, however, he could always change his mind if they start whispering big NFL money into his ear.

Yeah, at this point ND has been riding the mediocrity wave since the mid 90s for the most part. Aside from a few fluke BCS appearances where they were slaughtered, they haven't been a hard nosed, dominating team for some time, not championship material anyway. The last three coaches have basically had the same winning records and basically the same bowl futility. Davie's got ousted mostly for bowl performance and constantly losing to Michigan State. Willingham bought it after more of the same and numerous blowouts to teams like USC, Florida State, and others. Weis had the worst season ever essentially, a couple more USC blowouts, and a low bowl win. The scenery changes, ie the coach, but the location is basically the same. Kinda feel like this is our 3rd attempt at a coach, we're no better off than the last 2 essentially, where does ND go from here?

Funny thing, we almost had Urban Meyer before he went to Florida. He wanted to come here, but he asked "Boob" Davies if he should take the job. Bob said "You can't win at ND anymore" and so Urban turned down the job. I'm kinda curious what Bob really meant by this. Don't know if he was referring to trying to balance the academics and the athletics, or if it's the fact no one is worried about playing in South Bend anymore, or if Bob knew about some hex put on the team after Lou left

I have it on good authority that Bob worked mighty hard to put the skids under Lou and in the end "that which you sew, so shall you reap," came to be his destiny.

So no we're off "blame Ty" and onto "it's all Bob's fault".

Poor sweet Lou better watch out...he's next in the pecking order.
