You say buy-out....

I say "Slush fund"

ND can afford any buy out. Not an issue.

It's not the money per se, it's dropping that kind of coin to admit how fucking stupid they were about a guy they said was a combination of Rockne, Jesus, and Santa Claus...as opposed to how fucking stupid they are looking (and probably racist to boot) for keeping a guy whose record after 3 years will be worse than they guy they ditched to get him.

So they have options :tongue2:

So....I'd think it's safe to say the bloom has fallen off the fat man.

[/URL]This is why we suckReply Apparently we just renewed the contract of the fraud.

This is why we flat out will never be any good.

Totslly disgusted does not describe my feelings well enough. When we lose to Nevada or some other nobody on our easiest schedule ever next year, then people will know. And should we finish 9-3, or 10-2, don't think for a minute we are back, we are just also rans who beat also rans and do not have the right guy to get us to the top level. We are light years away from the top echelon and to think this underachiever can get us to that top level is a thought that can only be drug induced.

The only thought that holds out hope for fans like me, is that we have decided to get thru 2009 , save the present recruiting class, then fire his butt, and bring in someone like Urban in 2010.

Just know this -- Davie, Wilingham and Faust are by fact and record, better coaches than the Fraud. And If you go beyong the W/L record and look at margin of loss, most losses in any 2 year period, and most embarrassing losses, guess whose name will forever be associated with that?
It grades out as an F - as in F for Fraud.

According to Wojocieowski (or however you spell it) on ESPiN at lunch, the biggest reason they elected to retain fattie is that they were concerned with other schools "cherry picking" from Weis' stellar recruiting class that he's assembled for '09. As if that really matters....

According to Rivals, Weis' classes have ranked 40th in '05, 8th in '06, 8th in '07, 2nd in '08 and 10th in '09. Scout has them 27th, 5th, 11th, 2nd and 11th in those same 5 years.

Good recruiting classes haven't helped him significantly yet.

For comparison, over the same 5 years, OSU has ranked 12th, 12th, 15th, 4th and 2nd - accoring to Rivals and 7th, 13th, 16th, 4th and 1st according to Scout.

Maybe he really is a shitty coach.....

Looks like Operation Lardass will continue into year 5 officially now. Weis has to realize he is on a one year plan though...another 6-6, or even 7-5, and he's done, I imagine.

Easiest schedule in ND history should at least guarantee a 8-9 win season. 8 wins and the domers get to the Gator Bowl; 9 wins and they're in the BCS. They're trapped. Unless he falls on his face--and I don't put that past him--in a failure flameout of epic proportions, he's back for year 6.

God, ORD here. I'm not a religious man--btw, sorry about that priests and assholes crack a couple of pages back--but could you please, please, please let the fat man and the domers lose to Nevada at home in the season opener at home next year. I'll even pitch in a little bit to the Pope's Prada shoe fund.

There are numerous folks on the ND board who are drinking this particular flavor of kool aid. They actually believe some sort of deal has been cut with Urban, but that he wants to wait till Tebow graduates.

The fallacy in this is what if the fat man pulls 8,9 or even 10 wins out of his ass next year? Notre Dame being Notre Dame gets a sweetheart ride into the BCS? You fire him? I'd love to sit back and watch the lawsuits Chuckles would rain down on ND over that.

This is what I have been waiting for:

?Though this past season fell short of the expectations that all of us have for our football program, I am confident that Charlie has a strong foundation in place for future success and that the best course of action is to move forward under his leadership,? athletic director Jack Swarbrick said in a statement released by the university Wednesday.

“We are examining every aspect of the program and will make changes wherever we think they are needed.”

Translation:

best course of action
- we considered other alternatives.

to move forward
- one step at a time.

will make changes wherever we think they are needed
- The ten year contract means nothing.

Now, go screw up your bowl game Charlie and then try recruiting with that vote of confidence in your back pocket.

Regardless of what you may think of Mandel, this is a pretty good article...

Has Notre Dame finally lowered its standards?

Despite so many fans and media insisting over the past several weeks that Notre Dame should fire Charlie Weis, at the end of the day, it's in no way "wrong" of the school to stand by its embattled coach. I get angry when schools pull the plug too hastily, not when they show patience.

However, I would feel a whole lot more comfortable with AD Jack Swarbrick's decision to retain a coach who's produced the worst two-year stint in school history if either he or the university's president, Rev. John I. Jenkins, would publicly and own up to one or all of the following:

1) "What can we say? We royally screwed up when we gave our coach a $40 million contract for (almost) beating USC, and even we don't have $12 million to buy him out."

2) "I know we've been trying to deny it for four years now, but yes, we gave Tyrone Willingham the shaft when we fired him after three years. That's why we're now willing to give Weis an opportunity we never gave Ty, which is to coach a team of upperclassmen he himself recruited."

Or, most importantly ...

3) "We've lowered our standards."

con'd...

Teddy Greenstein in today's Chicago Tribune (a paper in a position to know better than any other) reported today that Weis has used profanities to insult alumni in front of their families.

This guy is just an incredibly foul human being. I don't care if he's the best coach in the world or the worst, he's scum.

It wasn't THAT bad (Link to the entire article).
Make amends: Weis has built a wall between his team and former Irish players. Unless your name is Joe Montana, Joe Theismann or Mike Golic, your access is limited. Good luck trying to watch practice or visit with the coaches on the Friday before home games.

The antipathy toward Weis goes deeper for many alums. He has insulted some with foul language, failed to show respect for their family members and operated with a distasteful air of superiority.

One former Notre Dame employee said Weis has "upset everyone in the Notre Dame administration at one time or another."

Weis finally made an effort to play nice with alums after going 3-9 in 2007. The Monogram Club hired popular former Irish star Reggie Brooks and created a Friday night gathering spot for former players. It's a start.
But I'm not sure I disagree with your overall conclusion.
