Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

Nothing super anymore about Weis, Crennel

They left the New England Patriots in triumph, eager to run their own shows. But it hasn't worked out for Romeo Crennel with the Browns, nor for Charlie Weis at Notre Dame, and you wonder whether it can.
I feel worse for Crennel, mainly because there's some humility to the man. Weis too often comes across as not the smartest guy in the room, but the guy who thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. That's particularly annoying when that guy isn't winning.
Four years ago, the Browns and Notre Dame both gambled on men who had not been head coaches before. Cynics ? who look pretty smart now ? wondered whether Crennel and Weis merely had been in the right jobs at the right time, benefiting from the genius and
chicanery of Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
That said, it's hard to believe they are bombing this badly.

Next Monday that is, Charlie stayed on the west coast to do some recruiting. If I had my choice of all the names mentioned (the one ND would have a chance at) I would try and get Harbaugh. He would be a blast to watch.

I'd love that hire for ND. I'd have no problem rooting for a Harbaugh-led team, especially against UM.

Any program that goes for a tie to win a National Championship should be cursed for a thousand years with this guy.

Any post that dumps [censored] on Ntre Ame for something that happened in 1966 gets a 'well done' from me.

[NDFan] But Terry Hanratty was knocked out by that nasty Bubba Smith, Coley O'Brien was diabetic, and Nick Eddy got hurt stepping off the train, so playing for a tie was smart. [/NDFan]

While it's hard to keep from laughing at Charlie, it should be pointed out that he won two out of the three games he played against Big 10 teams. That can't help the conference in getting decent bowl bids and with PSU and OSU sitting at 8 and 10 in the polls.

Maybe I'll give Charlie a pass until the conference looks like it's doing something.

yeah so? Any domers that bring that fact up need to have their heads examined.

He beat a 4-8 Purdidn't team and a 3-9 scUM team. 6-6 teams are supposed to win those games. it isn't like Purdidn't or scUM beat Ohio State or Penn State.

To be perfectly clear...Charlie Weis has never played football against the Big 10 or in any other way shape or form at the collegiate level.

You can call the MAC an "own division game" if you want, but I see them as just a cut above Div 2. Let us call a spade a spade, the Big 10 stunk this year. It's reflected in the polls, it will be reflected in the bowl assignments and unless they kick some ass during the holidays it will be reflected in the early polls next fall.
