I have been on CW from the start, but even I thought he would be winning 8-10 games by now. This has been so much fun. Can't we keep him for one more year? Pleeeease?
Just one more year? He has seven years left on his contract doesn't he? I think it is only right for ND to honor the whole contract they gave him after his greatest victory*. Really, I'd expect him to throw Jimmah under the bus anytime now to deflect blame from his giant ass.

*where victory = getting really really close to beating USC

I wondered earlier whether he'd throw his upperclassmen under the bus next year to perpetuate this notion of constantly rebuilding--i.e. nothing is Charlie's fault. The last four weeks, however, have been such a disaster that I doubt even the biggest domer kool-aid drinkers would fall for it again.

In a sense, I think the whole Ty Willingham firing puts some subtle pressure on ND to fire CW now. While I truly don't think Ty's firing was racially motivated, there are a lot of people out there who believe otherwise. And keeping CW around after these horrible back-to-back seasons feeds into that whole belief. On the other hand, there is the belief out there that the program needs stability, and ND used to have the tradition (or so i am told) of keeping a coach around for at least 5 years.

Sure seems like they have screwed themselves pretty badly, one way or the other. A kid must really love ND to commit at this point, given that the chances of CW being fired this year or next are pretty high. And it's not exactly like the administration has a great track record of picking coaches to fill those shoes, so there's a pretty big gamble in taking the risk.

It does feel like watching a train wreck. Glad it's not here.

True. But at the same time they are under intense pressure to get it right this time. Counting OLeary they have flubbed 4 in a row.

No ND coach has won more than 58% of their games since Holtz.

Kinda curious, does anyone think they'll bring in Skip Holtz? Or will they go for another big (Charlie) name.

Don't even try to guess. This is a school that has hired both a HS coach and an NFL OC with zero College coaching experience. They don't seem to learn.

I guess that is a possibility.

The name I think everyone should watch is Gary Patterson from TCU.

I've heard Illinois has a shot here. (Rimshot)

Seriously, quite a dramatic rise and fall for the tubby bastard. Just over two years ago, he had a 60 Minutes special, was considered an offensive guru responsible for N_tre _ame's latest return to glory...now he's just a fat man wondering if he'll still have a job come Monday.

Next Monday that is, Charlie stayed on the west coast to do some recruiting. If I had my choice of all the names mentioned (the one ND would have a chance at) I would try and get Harbaugh. He would be a blast to watch.
