Charlie Strong (former coach)

Strong never had the backing to succeed because he was never the first choice, a lot like Rich Rod and Brady Hoke. Whether the guy you get is a grand slam or not is sometimes less important than letting the boosters catch wind that you settled on your third, fourth, or fifth choice because bigger names turned you down.
Like maybe when Ohio state hired Tressel? Stoops was offered and I seem to recall at least one other. Tressel was also free to clean house as I recall and I don't think the real bosses at UT gave that to Strong. Whatever, it worked out in the Buck's case, but if Tress had begun with three seasons like Strong has had he'd have been gone too.

After thought. aTm ran off to the SEC taking away the traditional end-of-the-season-big-rivalry game. aTm was willing to hold on to the game, but the wounded egos in Austin would have none of it. Strong might still be on a hot seat, but if he'd gone 1 - 1 or 2 - 0 against the aggies with a good shot to win this year he might get a 4th season to turn things around.

I really hope Herman tells Texas "Thanks, but no thanks". Those arrogant pricks think they can get anyone they want just by picking up the phone. "Tremendous pressure to fire Strong and hire Herman" indeed. Have you even talked to Herman about whether he's interested?
Let's see, 2.5M a year to coach a team that has to play on Thursday night to get on TV, in a conference no one ever talks about, with facilities promised in the future, in the Texas equivalent to "Second City," or move to cool, weird, Austin, get home grown TV network, open doors in the most fertile recruiting grounds in the US, be in a conference with a foot in the door of any playoffs, state-of-the-art facilities, oh and is that a Brink's Truck pulling into my driveway?

If he goes there, he runs the risk of ruining his career. FOREVER....

It'd be hysterical if Herman took the LSU job instead.

Maybe, but Cooper was afforded 5 or 6 years like that, though I do believe he benefited from a bit of institutional guilt over Earl, who himself was afforded a pretty decent stretch of mediocrity at the end.

With regards to Strong, the "real bosses" at UT did everything they could to undermine him with the biggest boss of all publicly humiliating him before he even arrived on campus. I have to wonder whether, when they started sharpening the knives after his very fist loss this year, he just bunkered down into Fuck You Pay Me mode for the rest of the season, just coasting into December when he could grab his $10M check and say, "kiss this big shiny black ass" to them on his way out the door.

No offense to Herman...but does Texas even know if he can recruit?!?

Wait...what do I freaking care?

I am a Husker Fan....I am drinking in the tears of sorrow coming from the city of Austin right now.

I am looking at the dumpster fire and roasting marshmallows over it...

I am looking at the freshly marked grave of what was Texas Football, and am pissing on it right now...

That rant....such butthurt....damn, that made me feel pretty good. Might have to go to Texas, find a dog, and kick the hell outta that Texas dog...

:boogie::lol::no::rofl::rofl::yay::yay2::slappy::slappy::slappy:

Winter's coming. The hate keeps you warm and the tears provide sustenance. Juggalo tears, Longhorn tears, domer tears and very, very soon Harbaugh and Pedster tears. I'm stocking up like a squirrel.

If Herman doesn't come, they should seriously look at this guy.

FACT: He has a proven track record of working with retarded kids and keeping them in school.

FACT: Texas has a proven track record of recruiting retarded quarterbacks.
