Game Thread CFP Semifinal: Ohio State vs. Clemson, Sat 12/31 @ 7p ET, ESPN

You should be thankful you are too young to have lived through the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
The wife wasn't really in to college football then (she hadn't met ME yet :biggrin2: ) Now, being the die-hard Buckeye that she's become, she was frantic during the Wiscy and scUM games. I tried to explain to her what that 2002 season was like.......every week was a stress inducing nail biter. I know I think I had 3-4 heart attacks that year!

There was nowhere good to put this so throwing it up here....a 2018 mock draft just done the other day

6 of the top 14 they have as Bucks although some I expect to be gone this year....the most interesting? Curtis Samuel at 10, Noah Brown at 13 and Parris Campbell at 14.....
I made the argument last year that our Wide outs were not the problem when guys were pointing to Braxton not having experience, no deep threat, blah blah and we ended up having all three WRs playing on Sunday plus our TE was drafted.

This year we have heard the same argument, our Wides can't get separation, no deep threat, same ole same ole. I call Bullshit. I said a while back most of our receivers would be playing on Sundays and now one guy has three of them getting drafted in his top 14. Our WRs are talented.

I contend the problem with our pass game is not wide outs not separating, bad route running, inexperience, they played QB or RB in high school, or any other BS reason, but rather JT holds the damn ball too long, doesn't see the whole field well, doesn't go through his progressions well, doesn't throw anyone open, and the ball doesn't come out on time. Timing is not on the receiver, it is on the QB. I don't buy that we have too many guys rotating that he can't get comfortable with them either. I never see him cut it loose before a WR makes his break, ever.

I also contend it is not all on JT, but rather Beck. Our execution at times is what is lacking. The reason I do not lay it all on JT, in 14' we didn't see the same problems. Ball came out much quicker. I also blame vanilla routes, predictable routes, and play calling. We run the same stuff over and over in certain situations and my dad and I sit in the stands and often call the routes before the plays. If we can, you damn sure know DCs can.

We have abandon the screen pass for the most part, the quick hitting hitch, and I go hoarse screaming at them to run a damn pick or rub route when we get press man coverage. We just rarely do. We rarely take shots down the field and the opponents sit on our guys all the damn time hence why we have had a few guys wide ass open after a double move a couple of times. I would like to see more of that, along with play action on first down. We are at our best when we are throwing PA on first downs.

The thing that puts my mind the most at ease... Knowing Sammy Watkins won't be suiting up in orange and purple anytime soon. He essentially won that game for Clemson back in 2014. Williams, Scott, and co. is a nice corp of receivers, but they don't have that future superstar talent at WR this year like they've had in year's past. Most worried about being able to neutralize Watson's ability to run, and extend plays. Then to a lesser extent Gallman getting some yardage in the run game. I think if the Bucks slow their run game to a halt, it's an easy win, because then Watson is throwing into the mouth of the shark.

This.

I also get frustrated when people say it's our receivers not getting open. If JT puts it where no one but the WR can get it then it's not a issue. That plus if we give JT more time then someone will get open at some point. If JT isn't going to throw people open then we need to max protect which I know we won't do
