Game Thread CFP Semifinal: Ohio State vs. Clemson, Sat 12/31 @ 7p ET, ESPN

We laugh at other fan websites when a meltdown occurs. I love football and I love Ohio State but, WTF, this is a game. Not criticizing anyone but I have the email box full of whining like everyone else. Perspective. We're not in here with a heavy hand moderating but please folks, a little self-moderation goes a long way. If you saw Meyer's face after the game and heard what he said about being disappointed on offense, you know heads are going to roll.

Herman never had the type of [Mark May] games like PSU 2016, MSU 2015 and 2016, scUM 2016, Clemson 2016. In 2013, he had only two regular season games where the Bucks scored under 40 points (34 vs Iowa and 31 vs Wisconsin). In 2014, aside from the first two games getting JT's feet wet, the Bucks in the 50s five times and in the 40s five times. The worst games aside from the first two were 31-point games against the Pedsters and Minnesota.

You must not remember the series of:

2013 Big Ten Championship: 24-34
2013 Orange Bowl: 35-40
2014 Va Tech (in Columbus): 21-35

Tom Herman would have been fired September 7,2014 if the fans had their way.

And you must not have read the parts of my post where I said "regular season games" in reference to 2013, and specified "aside from the first two games getting JT's feet wet" for 2014.

I am sure Urban is all over the message boards this morning looking for answers ...NOT
I hope Urban isn't scouring message boards looking for tips. On the other hand, he doesn't have to. His comments post-game indicate he saw what we saw: basically offense that is inexcusable and intolerable. What is to be done about it is his call.

The difference with Tom Herman is that the offense progressed and learned from its mistakes.

This offense has been the same shit all season. Can't do anything but QB runs up the middle.

A good ways into the first half my son texted me, "Where is Mike Weber?" The Bucks had just run a play. I replied, "There he is out there in the flat catching another pass for -4 yards. Lol."

Not good when your offense is providing immediate and continuous comedic fodder.

Herman had his flaws - no one is without them, and simply biting our tongues and pretending they're not there is not a strategy that fosters excellence or national titles. Regardless, who exactly was calling for Herman to be fired in 2014? Every coach has one or two bad games for which they can rightly be criticized, but I can't remember anyone saying he should be fired.

On the contrary, I do remember everyone repeatedly and consistently complaining about how terrible the defense was and how Withers was holding us back. If Withers had been fired at the end of 2012, i argue we would actually have another national title as we matched up well against Notre Dame.

They can take issue with it all they want, I have no problem with that. And I can tell them to STFU until they prove deserving of even having the conversation.

So how does one prove worthy? Who deems them worthy? I have to achieve what that other person has?

I'll make sure to keep an eye out if you have an opinion in the poli board then. Wouldn't want to not have consistency in the argument here.

Plenty of fans were calling for Hermans head. He lost 3 out 4 games. 2 of those games were trophy games and the third being at home.

I'm not sure why you are twisting Herman into a comparison with Beck. I think you may have jumped into this mid-conversation. I'm simply laughing at our fire/bench happy fanbase (as I stated originally). Thankfully Urban has the patience to work things through and evaluate properly.

The "fire-happy fanbase" isn't unique to us. It's everywhere in sports. Shit, even many Bama fans have called for Kiffin to be fired.

Honestly, I've never been a big fan of Herman, but that probably stems from me not being a fan of the Urban offense in general - "QB run for 4 yards, QB draw for 5 yard loss, bubble screen for 5 yard gain". I can definitely remember large stretches throughout Urban's first season where the offense looked completely lost out there, but turned it on to score 3 times in quick succession, and then did nothing else for the rest of the game. The "Braxton, do something" offense, if you will.

I also find it ironic that our greatest success (the 2014 playoff run) came when we ran a more traditional offense with a big, strong-armed QB and leaned on our ground game.

Regardless of my displeasure with the offense, I feel like most fans rightly attributed the 2013 losses to MSU and Clemson on Withers and the terrible 10 yard cushion we gave every opposing receiver. And despite my initial reservations about Herman, he was at least willing to adjust and learn from his mistakes. I guess my memory differs from yours.

I think you may have jumped into this mid-conversation. I'm simply laughing at our fire/bench happy fanbase (as I stated originally).

Fair enough.

Ha ha okay you do that. Feel free to have all the opinions you want. As far as I find, they are free.

It's sort of like someone in the game thread was saying his sister, an ND fan no less, was giving him shit about the game. So, the Buckeyes beat ND into submission last year and ND is sitting home this year. But hey, talk all the shit you want.

Maybe for me, it's years, including the Cooper years, of living in Western Michigan. I tend to find that put up or shut up works well.
