Game Thread CFP Semifinal: Ohio State vs. Clemson, Sat 12/31 @ 7p ET, ESPN

When I saw Urban was interviewing him, I wondered how you could sell that to parents when you're trying to recruit their sons given what he's been accused of. That said, it's probably easier to sell him + an assurance from Urban that he's being monitored closely/has learned from it, than it is to sell them on coming to play in a Beck offense when they're trying to show out to secure their financial futures.
45 points a game and a 68% percent passers will change people's minds.

Chris Fowler was talking about the culture the clemson coaching staff instills versus the culture OSU's staff instills, in general. Apparently dabo told Fowler "they make their players want to quit everyday. That's the Ohio State way." He went on to say, in contrast, at clemson they "make their players feel good about themselves" and nurture them, let them grow sort of naturally or some [Mark May]. Kind of like coddling them along.

His assessment (which could be bull[Mark May]) of the culture instilled by the OSU coaching staff reminded me of the military training methods that I've heard Meyer uses to get his players ready. Making the kids "want to quit everyday" sounds kind of military to me. But it has to be bull[Mark May] meant to sway recruits. And I'd think recruits must know OSU's training regimen well enough to know what the culture will be.

"Sounds like the military" No offense but that's ridiculous. What branch, what squadron? Leadership styles vary from unit to unit, Commander to Commander, and senior leaders to senior leaders...

In today's age ( as wrong as I think it is) kids will lean towards the Clemson way then the OSU way of things. We need IMO to find a better balance of not having such a defeating end result. I bet we are the type that even if a kid wins a drill they still make him run too because he didn't win the drill "the right way". If you are going to take the winner and loser route you better reward kids when they win.

I'm not going to question Urban's overall system. Saban sure as shit isn't running a hippie commune down at Bama. How many recruiting classes has Dabo had that bettered ours? Ohio State's coaching problem is one of particular personnel, not underlying philosophy.

How many championships Dabo has again? That should be the point.
Coddling can only do so much, until Derrick Henry/Bo Scarborough steamrolls over you.

Unrelated to the quoted post. I'm fucking jealous of Clemson having Dexter Lawrence. The guy already looks like a Top 10 pick as a TRUE FRESHMAN. If he stays on this trajectory, I have no problem admitting he will be a top three pick in the NFL Draft. Kid just gets it.

And what's Dabos record against us? Yeah we have a Natty but it doesn't mean we can't figure out a fucking way to not be so dull over all.

4 to 6

A to B

I get it... Go fast and be efficient.

Fuck that. I'm keeping ours up. Not trying to be judgemental....

But, shut out or not, I'm always going to be a proud Buckeye.... Shut out or no shut out. Did we look like [Mark May] tonight? Fuck yeah. Doesn't change the fact I'm amazed we even beat Oklahoma let alone got chosen to play with the "big boys" this year.

Am I embarrassed as fuck all? Yes.
Am I going to run out and take down my team colors because of a terrible game? Absolutely not.

Lots of emotions running high tonight so please don't take this as an insult. Just voicing that I'm embarrassed by our performance TONIGHT. But that doesn't erase a lifetime of happiness this team has brought to us.

No embarrassment. I live in the city and it's NYE. It was coming down if we won by 50. I've had it since college, and I don't need some drunk meathead ripping it down to impress his buddies at 3am.

It's impossible to call the perfect play on every down and even if you do, the team that controls the LOS is more likely to win. Look at the game against Bama two years ago. Turnovers kept the Tide in the game but OSU was controlling the LOS and that eventually won out.

I don't care about any of the assistants. But the players are part of the equation too. We knew coming into this game that the OL had to protect better and Barrett had to see the field and throw the ball better or we would lose. We didn't need to know what plays would be called to know that was true. I wanted to see Weber get more carries and then he fumbled twice. I wanted to see more receivers involved but the OL couldn't protect and JT isn't very accurate and too many on target balls weren't caught. Maybe some more imaginative play calling would have gotten a few more first downs. Maybe not. It wasn't going to win the game. The better team won and it's not because of an assistant or two on the Buckeye staff.
Darron Lee disagrees. And he might know something about it since he was there last year. Just saying.

Very disappointing. Add to this discussion the real work that is needed at QB. If a QB can't stretch the field vertically, at this level, nothing works. I love Barrett but he is not at all a credible down field threat and is less than he once was. I don't know if that can be fixed and it is too raw right now for the discussion. I get the arguments about line play and agree but the problem is bigger than that. Heartbreaking loss but you start today to fix that. It's 6am. Best wishes to you all for the new year!

I don't think JTs problem is actually throwing the ball deep which is all down to timing. It has been the coaching staff asking him to read the defense to set up those deep throws. Herman would use plays to set up plays, so the deep ball could be a easy connection of pure drop back, count, and let it go. I feel alot of the trouble with the whole offense is asking Barrett to read too much and not using playcalling to set up the next play. The deep ball is prime example of this, JT has to see a player break open and nail the timing vs trusting the play will work if excused properly.
