I don't have an answer to that. But maybe, just maybe seeing what these two hacks were doing led to him reaching out to Kevin Wilson last week?

Not to mention the big run by Watson in the third that broke it open should have been called back for minimally 1 if not 2 major holds that weren't called.

This is where I'm confused... how we can actually allow this game plan and how we can actually permitt Clemson to dictate what we do. The SECOND we allow someone to dictate what we do we have lost and you should throw in the white towel. Pathetic and I actually do blame UFM for allowing this game plan and not stepping in during the game to take away the play calling duties

Very disappointing. Add to this discussion the real work that is needed at QB. If a QB can't stretch the field vertically, at this level, nothing works. I love Barrett but he is not at all a credible down field threat and is less than he once was. I don't know if that can be fixed and it is too raw right now for the discussion. I get the arguments about line play and agree but the problem is bigger than that. Heartbreaking loss but you start today to fix that. It's 6am. Best wishes to you all for the new year!

This game doesn't have me as angry because we can at least point to the singular problem(s). Offense cost us the entire game. No ifs ands or buts. It wasn't like we didn't have the talent. Play calling was the lone reason we lost this game.

My summary of this game - Hee Haw style:
Where, oh where, were you (offense) tonight? Why did you leave it back at home? I looked over the roster and thought there was an offense, but I watched tonight and - plfftt - it was gone.
Doom, despair, and agony on me; deep dark depression, excessive misery...
I was laughing by the third qtr - mainly because I'm too old to cry.
Nothing new on offense, no imagination, no adjustments until too late, and no clear identity. We miss Tom Herman. Things haven't clicked since he left. Move Warriner back to OL, find an OC with an imagination, and Zach Smith and Tim Beck can go teach typewriter maintenance at the Rocco Glubbo School for Women.

It's impossible to call the perfect play on every down and even if you do, the team that controls the LOS is more likely to win. Look at the game against Bama two years ago. Turnovers kept the Tide in the game but OSU was controlling the LOS and that eventually won out.
I don't care about any of the assistants. But the players are part of the equation too. We knew coming into this game that the OL had to protect better and Barrett had to see the field and throw the ball better or we would lose. We didn't need to know what plays would be called to know that was true. I wanted to see Weber get more carries and then he fumbled twice. I wanted to see more receivers involved but the OL couldn't protect and JT isn't very accurate and too many on target balls weren't caught. Maybe some more imaginative play calling would have gotten a few more first downs. Maybe not. It wasn't going to win the game. The better team won and it's not because of an assistant or two on the Buckeye staff.

Ultimately, Meyer is accountable. It's a bottom line business. But, I don't think you can expect a HC to step in mid-game and seize playcalling duties. This ain't the movies.
This game was over before it started, and I suspect Urban knew that. The offense, from execution, to game planning, to adjustments was very bad too often the last two years, this year in particular. This is a watershed moment in Meyer's tenure, not unlike after the 2013 Orange Bowl. He did what he had to do then. Let's hope he does now.

One more thing - I pray that this performance finally gets Urban to realize that sometimes changes are needed within the coaching staff.
If you think about it, that's always been his biggest problem.
It was clear from pretty much Game 2 under Urban that the Withers defense flat out sucks. And not only did it not improve, it actually got worse over the following two years. It was mind-boggling to me that Urban kept the guy on, despite the fact that we had the 2 statistically worst Ohio State defenses in the history of Ohio State football under his charge as DC. Even the haphazard defense we threw together in 2011 was miles better. Yet he was only fired after an embarrassing loss to Clemson.
And history repeats itself again. Absolutely putrid offensive play, with no worthwhile changes. Although last year we weren't statistically terrible, our level of play was unacceptable considering the fact that we had the most talented college football team in probably the past decade. This year, we coupled a young team with the same terrible coaching and ended up even worse off.
Heck, you can go back to Urban's Florida days and find the same flaws - ask any Gator fan how they feel about Steve Addazio.
I'm praying that this is the final wake-up call, and that Urban realizes it is okay to fire coaches when it is clear they are not working out. For example, purely hypothetically speaking, if our new defensive hire (Davis) turns out to be Withers 2.0

I am not necessarily saying I think we have three first rounders, but we did see an "expert" release his mock draft with those guys in the first round. I have also seen Mock Drafts with Corey Smith as a mid rounder.
My point is that our receivers are being made to look mediocre because of play calling and scheme and not because of their talent.
I argued with guys on here the year our D sucks ass against Clemson and I defended Shazier and Roby and there were guys saying our defensive coaching was fine and we lacked talent in the back end. Bullshit. Those two have been all Pros. Roby looked like a clown because of the scheme he was playing in, not because he lacked skill. Same for Shazier.
You know we have had this conversation before, I believe we have several WRs that will play on Sundays. Because they have the talent. Coaching is making them look like they have less talent than they do.

Chris Fowler was talking about the culture the clemson coaching staff instills versus the culture OSU's staff instills, in general. Apparently dabo told Fowler "they make their players want to quit everyday. That's the Ohio State way." He went on to say, in contrast, at clemson they "make their players feel good about themselves" and nurture them, let them grow sort of naturally or some shit. Kind of like coddling them along.
His assessment (which could be bullshit) of the culture instilled by the OSU coaching staff reminded me of the military training methods that I've heard Meyer uses to get his players ready. Making the kids "want to quit everyday" sounds kind of military to me. But it has to be bullshit meant to sway recruits. And I'd think recruits must know OSU's training regimen well enough to know what the culture will be.
