CBF40's look at '12 recruiting (BP's prediction thread)

I know it's a different ballgame now because Urban is a totally different recruiter, but I can't help but think back to the final days of the '10 recruiting cycle, where we already had Norwell, and thought we were going to be adding Henderson, Moses, and James. A lot of the conversation was "geeze, spots are getting tight, do we take them all, or pick and choose the best?" Signing day came and went, and we went 0 for 3 on the new additions.

Again, I know this is a totally different circumstance, but I just need to keep reminding myself that I will be happy with ANY of the OLmen on our board coming our way.

As a potential LT I see it as Dodson > Diamond.

As a potential RT I see it as O'Connor = Diamond.

Although I could see both O'Connor and Diamond ending up inside. I would take either and be ecstatic compared to where things were two months ago.

Love comparisons like this. Where would Decker place using this approach?

It seemed like we had the "it looks like spots are getting tight" feel every year, and then most everyone who decided late went elsewhere. It definitely seems like a new paradigm with Urban as far as that goes, but I don't blame you for still having that same gut reaction.

Assuming you had all of these right except one. Who are you wrong about and give me a name you may have missed that makes it.....please. Just curious to get a feel for which of these recruits you feel the strongest about and which names might make it on signing day that you didn't include.

Interesting question...if I had to pick on it would be O'Connor because OSU ca land someone they have higher on the board who projects as a true tackle (hint: Decker).

Not Wad, but I would have Decker as 1a and Dodson as 1b, then Diamond or O'Connor in that order.

I would agree with that if we were ranking them based on OSU's needs. O'Connor is a mauler and a beast but hasn't had a lot of experience with pass blocking. That makes his a little less desirable to OSU right now. But when it comes to run blocking he takes a back seat to know one on that list...

Agreed completely...I wish we had more room, I love O'Connors game but there is just an absolute necessity for true tackles at this point. If we miss one or two of the first three, I am more than comfortable with taking O'Connor as a projected RT.

I understand you guys point about pass blocking and certainly not disputing that, but we are talking about a high school kid with offers from renowned passing offenses like Boise, Cal, ND and pretty much everyone on the west coast. And again, we are talking about a high school kid. The experience may be lacking, but that alone doesn't make it a lost cause.

So did Connor Smith...

Someone having offers from offenses that aren't GT and Navy doesn't mean they are or project to great pass blockers.

But trying to project who will and wont be a great pass blocker becomes even harder when they havent had to do it much to be judged.

IMO O'Connor fits the bill for G not so sure as a T maybe RT but who knows maybe with a great O-Line coach which we havent had in quite some time, we may see quite a few major improvements across the board.

With all these OV's coming up and the new offers still coming out for 2012, I am thoroughly confused as to how this is all going to work out.

Seems like a good problem to have. Seems like the staff just wants back up plans for the players they're targeting most. These next three weeks could be exciting...
