Cbf40's look at '11 recruiting

good article on top 25 recruiting classes and wether or not it results in a top 25 finish

http://highschool.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1179868

Rivals.com began tabulating its Top 50 recruiting class team rankings with the Class of 2002. In nine years, 29 teams have made the rankings each season. In order to judge how recruiting success relates to on-field success, we ranked teams by recruiting (taking their average place over the nine years) and then compared that to their winning percentage over those nine years. The results may not be what you expected.
The school with the best recruiting classes over the period (USC), had the second-highest winning percentage. But the school's with the second- and third-highest recruiting ranking (Florida and Georgia), tied for 7th in winning percentage.
Virginia Tech had the highest achievement - in other words, it did the most with its classes. Virginia Tech tied for 21st in recruiting classes, but has the sixth-highest winning percentage in that time period (for a plus 15). Missouri (+13) is next. Ohio State (+11), Oregon and Pittsburgh (both +10) are the only other schools with double-digits gains.
The biggest underachievers? South Carolina and Texas A&M are the two biggest violators of good classes gone bad, with each coming in nine places lower on the field than in recruiting.
South Carolina ranked No. 15 in recruiting average but just 24th in winning percentage. Texas A&M was one spot behind in both, finishing No. 16 in recruiting but No. 25 in results.

Signing Day Primer: Projections for JaJuan Story, Aundrey Walker, and Darius Jennings - Along the Olentangy

by Tyler T. on Jan 26, 2011 8:00 AM EST

On February 2nd, thousands of high school athletes will send in their signed letters of intent to the school of their choice, which means that National Signing Day is fast approaching once more. In a few days, Ohio State will officially know who composes their 2011 class, and we're going to take a look at the current state of the undecided recruits and whether we believe they will be Buckeyes.

JaJuan Story

Wide Receiver

Brooksville, Florida

Status: Committed to the Florida Gators

Story is an odd story, of sorts. He was very receptive to the idea of going out of state for college early on in the process but committed to Florida in late June after a short courtship. Out of all his out of state options, and there were many, Story was seemingly interested in Ohio State most, but contact between the two parties died down over the past six months as the Bucks moved on to other targets and Story settled in as a Gator commitment.

Much like Ryan Shazier, however, Story's eyes began to wander with the Gators having a rough season. Still, it appeared that he would remain a Gator commitment through signing day, as he had grown comfortable with head coach Urban Meyer and wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni. Then Urban Meyer retired, and Azzanni was not retained by new head coach Will Muschamp.

Football: OSU wants blue chips in mix - BuckeyeXtra

By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State and coach Jim Tressel are in a familiar position with less than a week to go before recruits can sign letters of intent: Most of the work is done, but the Buckeyes could still put a cherry on top of the class.

Offensive lineman Aundrey Walker of Cleveland Glenville and/or linebacker Curtis Grant of Richmond, Va., each a consensus blue-chip prospect, could fill that role. Their decisions likely aren't coming until Wednesday, when the signing period opens, and each has an official visit planned this weekend, Walker to Wisconsin and Grant to North Carolina.

Without either, though, the Ohio State class still grades out well, Jeremy Crabtree of ESPN.com said. ESPN rated the Buckeyes' class of 21 commitments - headed by quarterback Braxton Miller, who is already enrolled - seventh nationally yesterday.

"It's the best program in the Big Ten, ahead of Nebraska (No. 14), Michigan State and Iowa," Crabtree said. "Obviously, the foundation - as always - with this Bucks class comes from local in-state talent. Braxton Miller, (defensive end) Steve Miller, (defensive back) Doran Grant and (defensive lineman) Michael Bennett all rate high on our scouts' lists for good reasons.

When all's said and done, I would like for Jones to get a scholly and come to OSU. I don't think we can just put all of our eggs in the Braxton Miller basket. Having some more healthy competition won't help, especially when we lose 2 QBs after this season(and possibly Guiton ala Antonio Henton). I'm sure a lot of us would feel more comfortable that if we possibly lose 3 we still have 3 QBs on scholly, with different skill sets but can all play well in different capacities

While I'd love to have Jones, I still think he takes I-80 West to Toledo to backup former teammate Terrence Owens for two years. I believe Wynn follows.

Free Rivals - Big Ten Blitz: Big names still on the board

Ohio State

Ohio State only has room for roughly three players in this class and they hope the trio is five-star linebacker Curtis Grant from Virginia, wide receiver Ja'Juan Story from Florida and offensive lineman Aundrey Walker from Ohio. Grant is considered to be an Ohio State lean heading into his last official visit with North Carolina this weekend, many feel that Story will flip from Florida to the Buckeyes by Signing Day and it would be a bit of a surprise if Walker ended up anyplace but Ohio State despite rumors that he is seriously thinking about re-locating to USC or FSU. Maryland athlete Darius Jennings is also in the mix and Ohio State would likely make room if they hit on all four, but many feel Jennings will end up at Wake Forest or Virginia. Finally, there have been rumors about Ohio State signing quarterback Cardale Jones and grayshirting him so keep an eye on that.

You think Wynn turns down the number of big time offers he has to go to Toldeo?

As Oiler mentioned, Bank's got a pretty good idea of where Wynn ends up and it ain't Hawaii...in fact that visit is off according to what I've heard.

I was shocked to hear the news about our new Long Snapper. I think we close with him, Grant, and Walker. Story goes to Florida and Jennings goes to Virginia.

Agreed... As much as I'd like to have Story in this class (and the after effects that would come along with this years recruiting coup at UF expense), I am tempering my enthusiasm...

I still hold a little hope that if this is how it plays out, Duron gets his academic house in order and makes it up here for fall camp... Those dividends may pay off larger and more immediately with opportunities available at WR for 2011...

I'm leaning that way to, although anything with Jennings wouldn't surprise me...I've got no idea where he is going.

Duron most likely isn't coming back. Move on.
