CBF40's Look at '10 recruiting

RB07OSU;1360269; said:
I suppose but Ohio's crop is much better for '10 imo. The top end talent is ridiculous and there is some depth to go behind it. Not that '09 is a bad year really but if you compare the top 6 of the two classes, I think the nod goes to '10:
'09: Wood, Simon, Fellows, Klein, Barnett, Turner (Massilon)
'10: Norwell, Turner(Ursuline), James, Ware, McVey, Hicks

- I think there is possibly only one 5 star in '09 with Simon (depending on senior film?) and for '10, I could see Norwell, Turner, Ware, James, and Hicks being in contention for 5 star status. Shoot, maybe even McVey if he shows up at the combines. '10 is just filthy, let's just hope we can keep 'em in state. Ware and Hicks worry me.
I understand you're only including kids we've already offered, but given that Howard's reported to getting his act together, I hope to add him to that list sometime soon...

Awesome job with the breakdown a few posts up, could you provide what high school each player goes to? That would be awesome, I would rep you but I have to spread it around first, but I will make sure to rep later.

No prob I added size and the schools names

I like Howard but grades aren't the only thing holding me back from putting him in the top 10. I've yet to see film from Howard that shows burst. He puts up great numbers and he is a great HS player, but I'm just not sold yet. I'm waiting to see his junior highlights until I rank him higher. The vision and power is there, but he just needs the explosion to go with it. This is certainly an early list.

This is a real in depth look at what we are after...Hopefully we know more after signing day. This is going to be a fun class...Lots of guys that are from Ohio that could go elsewhere, and not many OOS guys on the board yet.

QB ? We have to take 1. No offers to anyone yet, some names have surfaced, but really don?t have a good read on this position yet.

Mitchell Faine ? Probably the top signal caller in Ohio, there has been inquires, now we see if any thing comes of that.
Robert Bolden ? I thought he would be the one to get offered. Still hasn?t happened. Not sure where we stand.
Nick Montana ? Son of Joe. Will be interesting to see if we can get involved here.
Phillips Sims Jr ? There has been talk that he has inquired about us. He is one of the top signal callers next year. Will be interesting to see if there is any interest from either sides, or if anything happens.
Devin Gardner ? I still think we are involved here. He is a kid with a lot of potential, but much like TP needs to learn to throw a better ball.
Dwight Macon ?Some still seem to like him, but I just don?t see it.
Brandon Pechloff ? A new name on the radar was at camp last year, has great size at 6?6??, said to have interest from the staff.

RB ? We took 3 this year, but I still say we take 2 next year. Lots of talent we are in on.
Corey Brown ? He is very high on the wish list. He has game breaking ability and we are near the top of his list. Would love to see us land him.
Eric Howard ? he could be the most talked player in the state next year, if we wait to offer him, as many will say we should, as many have already said we should. I would not mind an offer, but I think there are bigger fish to fry, but Howard is a solid back, and can play at the next level. We will for sure revisit him many times during the recruiting season.
Spencer Ware ? I think he is a top 3 player in the state. Some will disagree with me, but I really like him. I have him behind only Norwell and Turner. Love his ability to make people miss. This is going to be a battle, but I really hope that we can win this one.
Roderick Smith ? Has an early offer from Iowa already. We seemed to be showing quite a bit of interest. Not sure if we will offer with offers out to Ware and Brown, but he is a big time player, that I would like to see an offer go out to.

WR ? I say if we land Brown we stick with 2 next year. If we don?t land Brown we might go with 3 again next year. Really not a lot of big names out there yet. Some solid prospects from Ohio tho.
Corvin Lamb ? This is a name that I am going to put on here. Probably nothing to come of it, but he is a burner at 5?10?? 180 and wants to get out of Miami. He finished 6th in state in the 200 and 2nd in the 400 in Florida. He listed us as one of his top 5 schools he would like to hear from. Probably going to end up at Florida per the last couple updates.
Tai?ler Jones ? From the same school as Keith Wells. Think we have a good chance here. He is one of the top WR in the country and would be a big pick up for us. He has lots of offers already tho.
Dyjuan Lewis ? From Indiana. Has 8 offers already and we have shown interest. He is a big target with speed. I would of offered him yesterday.
Jerald Robinson ? He is one that has been told to wait till camp. He has good size, not gamebreaking speed, but he would qualify as a possession receiver.
Tyrone Williams ? If we don?t land two of the top 3 on this list I would love to see us go here, and I wouldn?t mind if we went with him if it meant missing on one of them. He has great size at 6?5?? and great athleticism for a guy that big.
Anthony Schrok ? He is still one to watch. Probably a camp type kid.

TE ? Could depend on whether or not we land Sims or not this year. There are some solid names out there already. I wouldn?t mind taking two if we miss on Sims.
Alex Smith ? He is my top candidate if they are not going to push after the kid from Illinois. An offer here could also help with Jordan Hicks as well.
Dan Schnieder? One of the top TE?s in the state. Another that will probably be a camp guy.
Brendan Carozzoni ? A slender TE but could shoot up the charts. Another camp type guy.

OL ?We are hoping to take either 4 or 5 depending on Hall and Moses. Either way I see us taking 4 again next year if the names are right. We are in on some real big names already.
Andrew Norwell ? After the state playoffs he has moved into top 10 consideration in the nation and top player in the state. We are the early leaders here as well and it should be just a matter of time. This would be a huge get for us after the last couple hauls of lineman we have landed.
Matt James ? He is another big time Tackle in the state. I think we are in the game, but Tennessee, Notre Dame, Cincy are all there as well. Hard to really get a good read here. Would hate to miss on a player like this, especially in the state. As for Notre Dame they already have one OT commit and look to be the leaders for the Hurst kid out of Indiana as well, and are in the game for Henderson.
Seantrel Henderson ? We are in the game, but this one is going to be more than tough to land. Many have thrown Orlando?s name out there for comparison. He is going to compete for top player in the country next season. I would say Notre Dame and Minny are the two early favorites, but everyone in the country Is going to come calling here.
Andrew Donnal ? I really feel that he is the next in line in state if we are to miss on one of James or Norwell in state. Might be a camp type guy, but he is in consideration for an offer.
Skyler Schofner ? He is another one that is there with Donnal that is in consideration for an offer, and will probably be a camp type guy.
James Hurst ? He is one I would like to see us get involved for. Maybe for no other reason than to maybe piggy back and land him if ND pulls James or Henderson and he wants to head elsewhere. That and he is a big time player.
Taylor Miller ? He is another guy in state that is one to keep an eye on.
Ben Buzzelli ? Probably an interior guy, but does a lot of run and pass blocking. One to keep an eye on.

DE ? We have really put together a couple of real nice classes and I would say we follow that up with 2 more this year as there are some good names out there.
Darryl Baldwin ? He already has an offer. He is a guy that could grow into a DT with his 6?6?? 245 frame and he moves very well. This is one that could end early in the process, but either way most feel he ends up a Buckeye.
JT Moore ? Think that he will grow into a DE. Scout ranks him as a top 100 player at OLB. He has lots of skill and was excited to be a buckeye. He sister has also committed as a girls bball player. Also the staff really had the chance to see him as they recruited Linsley.
Derrick Bryant ? Could be the most athleticly gifted DE, but really hasn?t shown a whole lot on the field. He is one to keep an eye on. Could need some work in the classroom as well. Has offers from Michigan and Illinois already.
William Gholston ? This one continues to perplex many. With the other big time offers he is getting and where we would stand if we offered him, you would figure we would offer. There has to be something hold that up, but can?t figure it out. Maybe the coaches see something they don?t like.
Jayrone Elliot ? He is a very talented prospect from Glenville. Could he been in line for an offer? Not sure but he is one to watch that is for sure.

DT ? Need to follow up again with a solid 2 guys here. No offers out yet, but there are some solid prospects showing early interest.
Josh Davis ? He is a huge kid and probably the top DT in state, so he goes on this list. Not sure if he is going to get an offer tho, probably a camp type kid.
Frank Boenzi ? A guy we have shown a lot of interest, should be a highly recruited player out of Illinois. We are in a solid position here. Could see an offer at some point.
Calvin Barnett ? Has said that he would like an offer from us, and that we might be his favorite. We have been down to see him. Probably a little bit of a long shot once the big 12 schools come calling.

LB ? We continue to load up here. If we can get the right 3 we take them. If not we can live with 2.
Scott McVey ? Really blew up in the state playoffs and had a huge state title game. It is really just a matter of time now that he received an offer. He is going to end up in the star position I think, but he has the speed to play that position, and really understands how to blitz the QB out of the lb position.
Jamel Turner ? Most feel he is going to have to move to OLB, but I think with his speed he will be fine, but you could also see him in the LEO role much like Thad Gibson and blitzing the QB. He might fall down the rankings as he is an early commit and they will tell us that he is undersized, but whatever, he is a top 15 player in the country and 2nd best player in the state behind Norwell.
Jordan Hicks ? This one is kind of upsetting. He is a stud player, with lots of talent. But it looks like we are running 3rd in this race behind Florida and Texas. He is a top 5 player in the state and it will hurt to lose him, but if there is a position that it wont hurt that much it is LB.
Khairi Fortt ? He is a big time player. Was first team at the junior combine in SA. He received an early offer from us. Will be interesting to really gauge his interest in us. Physically imposing. Could end up in the middle.

DB ? After last years big class it would be great to follow up with a solid 4 man class of 2CB and 2DB.
James Manuel ? He is from Indiana. He has said he is hearing from us, and he is one I would love to see an offer go to. Saw him at the Cincy combine last year, and he really shut guys down, and he is physical and has great size at 6?1?? 192. Could end up a safety as well. Has offers from Cincy and Louisville already.
LaTwann Anderson ? He is a kid which not much info out there, but he is a blazer with 4.3 speed. Not great hips tho, so could end up a safety or a slot type guy, but you have to take a look because of the speed. Has said he will camp at tOSU. Probably know more then, but one to keep an eye one for sure?
Dior Mathis ? From Cass Tech. Will be interesting to see if we can get involved. Probably a top 100 talent or at least 250, but he is a little undersized for a corner.
Deandre Harris ? Already has an early offer from Illinois. From Ursuline. Might be a little undersized in terms of height at only 5?10?? but has good size at 185. Probably a camp type kid.
Marvin Robinson ? The kid seems to be all Michigan, but did say in the article that his top 4 are all even and we are in the top 4.
LaMarcus Joyner ? Probably not going to happen, but he is a very talented corner that would be great to land.
Brandon Ifill ? He has good size and has some pretty solid offers. Has Michigan already. We have shown interest.
Cullen Christian ? teammate of Ifill. Will see if we push after him.
Christian Byrant ? He impressed down in SA, and could be the top player at Glenville next year. Might be a tad undersized, but I see him as being recruited as a safety. No offers as of yet.
Terrell Givens ? From South Florida, mentioned early in the process he was hearing from us.
Terrence Talbott ? he is another kid instate that could emerge as a top CB prospect. But right now he is just one to watch.
Mike Dorsey ? Really thought he would be one in line for an early offer after watching his film, but I guess not. Will have to be a guy that will impress at camp.
Braylon Heard ? He is another to keep an eye on in state.
Andre Givens ? Another in state guy to keep an eye on.
Ryan Barber ? From Westerville, one of the faster kids in the state.
Courtney Avery ? Another in state guy to keep an eye on.

Really not sure on a guess list this early, as there are lots of guys that shoudl get offers here after signing day to know where we stand.

I will say that i think that we land (guys with offers)...

J.T. Moore
Jamel Turner
Scott McVey
Andrew Norwell
Daryll Baldwin

Outside of that I really don't feel real confident for anyone with an offer and it is hard to know who else is going to get an offer.

I like our chances with Ware. But Tennessee and, especially, Georgia will be strong contenders. Spencer is a tremendous baseball player, and Georgia's baseball team > OSU's. Although, there aren't too many 5'11 230lb shortstops in the pro's...

Hicks is a long shot, although I agree that an offer to Smith couldn't hurt; he should get one regardless, as he's a great TE prospect.

James might be a UC lean at this point. His parents are both UC alums, and as long as Kelly is there, they will be a solid team. St. X is one of the more OSU-friendly schools in the GCL, however, and we have a good shot.

You want to see a 2010 DT right from our "own backyard" (well, at least it seems that way in recent years). Not Ohio, but from Pennsylvania.

2010 DT Sharrif Floyd (by the way, what an incredible name)
Philadelphia (PA) George Washington
Ht: 6-foot-4
Wt: 297 lbs
Bench max: 260 pounds
Squat max: 425 pounds
Vertical: 19 inches

Watch his Jr. Army Combine video, kid is a stud, he just kills the offensive linemen. Made First Team All-Defense there. I can't imagine us not going after him, especially if we miss out on Corey Adams this year. He HAS to be high on our list.

He may be from PA, but off the top of my head I can't think of any recruit OSU has landed from the Philadelphia metro area. In fact, I can't recall anyone from that area getting offered/recruited seriously by OSU. OSU does most of its damage in Western PA.

But yeah, he would seem to be a kid that OSU might want to target for defensive tackle considering there isn't anyone in-state they'll likely offer at that position.

D.J. Williamson - A kid with a ton of potential...Has great size, and great speed...10.82 100 as a sophomore...Also built pretty well...Goes up and gets the ball well...Could be a CB type as well...So far so good this fall, and his limited film shows his speed and athleticism...

Here is Williamson's updated profile on Scouting Ohio, which contains film from his junior season.

D.J. certainly looks like a WR/CB and has the speed to play there, as well as the athleticism I'm sure. However, my only question at CB for him then would be if he can tackle? That is always a concern for me. Worm, are you aware of his CB abilities? and, if so, could you enlighten us all on how you feel? TIA.

D.J. played some CB as a sophomore, but he concentrated on offense this past season. He's an ok tackler, but I'm not going to hype him up to be something that he's not. If his main focus was on defense, than I think that he could be a good CB. That's often the case when you are a great athlete because most of them can play anywhere (suitable). At the same time, I believe that is future is on offense. I think that he could get a look at TB in the right system (West Virginia, Michigan, etc.). If he was to get an offer from Ohio State, he would be a lock at WR, although I could see him being used in different ways.
