CBF40's Look at '10 recruiting

Another name:

Class of 2010 linebacker Brian Foster (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) was having an outstanding season before being hit by the injury bug. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Foster sustained a concussion and then injured his left knee. Foster tore his ACL and had reconstructive surgery. He expects to recover long before next football season.

Prior to the injury, Foster made 39 tackles and had seven sacks in five games. He has been invited to games at Northwestern, Illinois, Ohio State, Cincinnati and Kansas. Foster says Illinois and Northwestern are his two favorites.

I'm watching All Bets Are Off right now, and one of the high school football analysts mentioned a kid named Tim Hartsel or something? Name didn't ring a bell for me, but the guy said that he's the best LB he's seen this season. He said "If Ohio State gets him.." leading me to believe that he has some reason to believe that there's mutual interest.

There is a Tim Hartzell who is a LB from Hoover but he is a senior if I am not mistaken...

Akrom STVM LB Brian Foster (whose name has been mentioned here) is one to watch...have to see how he recovers from his ACL surgery but he was having a fine season prior to the injury.

hey it was on all bets are off. if it was on cleveland [strike]rants[/strike] sleeps, then i doubt theyd be mistaken...

It is going to be very interesting to see what we do at DE next year...

We already have J.T. Moore in the fold...

Then we have an offer out to Darryl Baldwin, and most are putting Turner in the OLB class, so lets not put him at DE...

Then just in Ohio we have:

Jayrone Elliot
Derrick Bryant

Then there is William Gholston as well...

I have no problem with this at all, love having more talent then we can take, it is just interesting to see what direction we go...

I gotta assume we take 3 with all the talent in state...

OL is also very interesting with

Norwell, James, Miller, Henderson, Donnal and any other names that pop up...

Baldwin won't play DE either. I expect Elliot will get an offer at some point. Not sure about Bryant at this point. I hope we seriously look around the country for impact DEs.

Brendan Carozzoni is a TE from St. Ignatius that has really impressed me the 3 times I've seen them. He is 6-4 215 lbs. and has GREAT hands, as well as great speed and athleticism. I would be surprised if he didn't get some looks from the Big 10. If anyone watched the title game on Saturday, Brendan scored Iggy's first TD.

Carrazoni is impressive, but 215 is generous he looks to be 200. He need work on his blocking but is a great receiving TE, he probably only had 200 or so receiving yards this year but Ignatius didnt throw to him much. He could battle for a buckeye offer with Smith and Schneider the 6'4 230 TE from Avon Lake(similar stats to Brenden slightly bigger and thus better blocker)

I realize he isn't a blocker yet but to be honest, I don't really care too much at this point. He has a great frame to add weight and I agree, he does look closer to 200 than 215 but weight won't be a problem. I anticipate more balls being thrown his way next year with Parris and Ryan graduating at WR. I think Alex Smith gets an offer (I like him a tad more than Carozzoni) and I haven't seen Schneider yet to decide between he and Carozzoni. We have our block-first TE with Fragel this year (I know he can catch though), so I wouldn't mind a couple of pass catchers next year and with our lack of a pitch to sell to TE's, being an Ohio TE could be our only hope of pulling 2 in. Hopefully he comes to camp, along with McVey (who should be there).

With our O- and D-line struggles this year I hope the staff is really emphasizing that aspect of recruiting in 2009. William Gholston is at the top of my wishlist of DE prospects without an OSU offer. Outside of him I haven't had a chance to scope other OOS talent at the position. But before it's all said and done I know we'll have offers out to top OOS prospects at both positions. We're off to a good start with S. Henderson in Minny.

But for once I wish the staff would hold off on the offers to 2-3* OH kids with all MAC offers and one from Indiana before they offer up the top talent around the country. It's evident that we missed out on some hot commodities this year by allowing those same kids to eat up schollies.

He must be talking about Homan and Boren... Everyone else in our class either is a big time prospect or has obvious upside. Those two probably end up at FB which is not a glamorous position. I agree that we need to focus on Oline and Dline recruiting for 2010. Never can have to much talent on the lines. But back to 2009 if we're to close with Adams, Hall, Hosley/Edwards it would be hard for me personally to fault our 2009 class...only nitpick would be bringing in a decent qb to be our third string guy.

I know who he is talking about in terms of the 2-3 star players, just curious who we missed on by taking them...
