CBF40'S Look at '09 recruiting

what is the opinion of Terence Davis? He's a big WR who reminds me of Fred Davis, and I think he could compliment Fragel well as a field stretching TE. Also since he's from ohio he would probably be easier to get than other pass catching TE's since we haven't used them that much.

Heacock say's they are recruiting Green as an ATH not necesarily a DB..

So lets just say speed...

here is what it looks like in the speed category...

1. Berry
2. Hall
3. Jackson
4. Fields
5. Wood
6. Barnett
7. Brown
8. McGee
9. Vlad
10. McDougald
11. Green
12. Carter
13. Boyd
14. Banks
15. Hunter
16. Clarke
17. Sweeting
18. Brown
19. Debose
20. Evans
21. Appleton

How many do they go with? I think that is most of the speed guys that we have offers out to...

I would say 3 or 4 guys that profile as WR types, 6 that profile as DB types, 1 ath in Hall, and 1 RB in Berry, putting Hyde in the big Speed category...

So I would say 11 or 12 at most...

Especially considering you have 3 LB's, 2 FB's, 1 TE, 1 RB in big speed which gives 7 there and the staff is looking for a 2nd TE it looks like...

Then Power you have 4OL and 4-5DL which is 8-9 guys...

So 12+8+9=29...
Or 11+7+8=26...

So with that said we are looking at probably 11 or 12 speed guys...

From the list above we have 5 spots filled...
1. Hall
2. Fields
3. Jackson
4. Wood
5. Barnett

So 6 or 7 spots left

1. Berry (In)
2. Vlad (In)
3. Carter (In)
4. McGee (In, put not anytime soon)

This leaves 2 or 3...

1. Brown (on visit)
2. McDougald (??)
3. Clarke (??)
4. Green (??)
5. 4th WR

So this leaves me to believe that the only guys on this list they would wait on are a 4th WR...So if Brown, McDougald, Clarke or Green want in they better get in quick as I only see us taking 2 of those guys...

Hell ya....how about....awesome post?

The DBs situation does seem like the most fluid of the lot. I think Brown, McDougald and Vlad are in.....not so sure about McGee. He's gonna take his time.....maybe Vlad would do some recruiting for us!

Overall great post which had our entire recruiting season for the class of '09 summed up in one post!

RB - Berry
RB - Hyde
FB - Homan
FB - Boren
TE - Fragel
TE - Sims/Hageman/?? - Just think we are looking to take a second one, not sure who to peg in here yet.
WR - Jackson
WR - Fields
WR - Carter
WR - Maybe one of the big targets Boyd/Debose/Evans/Brown - that is the order that I think we have the best shot at as well...
OL - Linsley
OL - Mewhort
OL - Hall
OL - Watt/Longo/Klatt/Spiker - In that order...
DE - Fellows
DE - Newsome
DE/DT - Muldoon
DT - Simon
DL - Adams or someone else...Ezell, etc...
LB - Bell
LB - Klein
LB - Whiting
DB - Barnett
DB - Wood
DB - McDougald
DB - Vlad
DB - McGee
DB - Brown
DB - Green

Thoughts?

I don't see Hall on your list. It would be 30 if you count him.

The 4th WR remains a very long shot. I'm just hoping that a guy like Boyd or Evans doesn't end up at Michigan.

The 4th OLer may just be Watt. If he doesn't come they have a chance to look at Prior, Bellamy and Longo but I doubt those guys get an offer.

As far as DB recruiting is concerned, give me Hunter, Barnett and someone else at CB and Wood, McDougald and Vlad at S and I would be happy. The thing to watch out is that if McGee doesn't come this way, what is going to happen with Vlad. I have a feeling that even if the staff gets McGee and Vlad to jump onboard before the season, if they take their eyes off these kids and focus on the seaon, don't be surprised if there are some changes.

The 4th OL will either be Watt or will come from one of Klatt, Spiker or Long, IMO.

I could see a DB class of Emilien, Wood, Brown, McGee, Barnett and Green. If Green commits early and takes the spot of a guy like Hunter or Clarke or Banks, so be it. Get on board or get left out in the cold. Emilien will decide long before McGee does, and it will take a minor miracle for anyone to snatch Emilien away from OSU...that is not a guess, that is solid info from a variety of sources.

What I really wonder is if there is a pecking order among the DB prospects. Logically, one would think that prospects that get the first batch of orders are the most wanted. Those would include Barnett, Wood, Hunter, Banks, Givens, then McGee and Vlad. But with the batch of recent offers it doesn't look like they want to wait for those guys. I'm sorta hoping that we get the guys that were offered first, because the staff must have offered them first for a reason, but who knows.

Just thinking about where I rank the uncommited prospects myself, regardless of high interest. I know the coaches board look different, but my own opinion:
QB:
1. Pat Nicely
RB:
1. Jamaal Berry
2. Carlos Hyde
3. Bud Golden
4. Trabis Ward
WR:
1. Andre DeBose (the #1 player on this list regardless of position for me)
2. Marlon Brown (no shot imo)
3. Jerhanie Boyd
4. Shaquelle Evans
5. Duron Carter
6. Appleton
TE:
1. Rasheede Hageman
2. Dion Sims
OL:
1. Marcus Hall
2. Chris Watt
3. Chris Freeman
4. Sam Longo
DL:
1. Corey Adams
2. Pat Muldoon
3. Tyron Ezell
4. Jonathan Newsome
LB: Done
DB:
1. Brandon McGee
2. EJ Banks
3. Vlad
4. Justin Green
5. Corey Brown
6. McDougald
7. Dominic Clarke
8. Victor Marc
9. Roderick Sweeting
- I am sure you all have opinions on this matter (we are almost done with this class, so we need something to talk about)

At this point I am not ready to believe that one of Debose/Evans/Boyd/Brown ends up in this class. If/Once they visit I may change my tune about that. That's why I think out of the DB prospects we are going to take 7 and convert someone to receiver. Banks/Green/McGee all look like they could turn into great receivers.

I think we we end up with:

1. Barnett
2. Wood
3. Vlad
4. Brown
5. Banks
6. Green
7. McGee / McDougald if the staff gets fed up waiting

We have a class that by all accounts may be too big to fit. We have 3 projected WRs with Carter and we have 7 underclassmen at the position on the current roster. I just don't see us bringing in an extra DB to see if he can become a WR - "speed" category not withstanding.

IMO this class will NOT go over 25. The DBs will sort themselves out as kids commit and others back away because of the numbers. NOBODY wants to be the 7th - or even 6th - DB recruit in any one class. Particularly on a team that could return as many as FOURTEEN players at the position.

Along with seven Juniors we have SIXTEEN underclassmen at the DB and WR positions and we are talking about adding as many as 11 new Frosh? Insane. Even with potential conversions to LB - where again we are loaded - just ain't gonna happen.

And another point in reference to a class of 26-28...

We have 45 underclassmen on the roster. Bring in just 25 and that takes you to 70. That leaves only 15 spots for the class of 2010 - a number that can grow only with transfers and early departures of current Sophs in two years (Saine, Heyward, ???) . I just don't see it.
