CBF40'S Look at '09 recruiting

With 12 in already...

My crystal ball says that these are the guys I am pretty confident on...
Berry, Boren, Carter, Fragel, Linsley, Hall, Newsome, Muldoon, McGee, and Vlad

That puts us to 22...Still think we need a QB, that takes us to 23...So if the number is 26 and lets say it is just to include more guys...Here is the guys that have a solid shot at being in the class as the last 3 or 4 depending on whether we take a QB or not...

Jackson (Just not a lot of info out there)

Watt (ND?)

Marc (no offer?)

Banks (does he get in before the class is full or is he a guy they hold a spot for?)

Hunter (Once again not a lot of info)

Telfort (not much info out there, but I really like him, and think if we take another lb he is it, because I don't think the new Norman info is going to turn into anything)

Adams (Would love to see it, he would be number one in terms of a wish list with guys on this list, but just don't see it happening)

Evans (kid is a stud, but I think it is USC or UCLA, he is one you take any way you can)

Carradine (love this kids upside, I have him right up there with Fellows, but not quite as big, but he is one of them rangy DE's that I love)
Stud A, B, or C (I still think that names will pop up, that are top 50 or so talent because of what we are putting together here, will they just list us or show heavy interest, and will we have room)

So with all of that said here is my class as of today...Also sometime over the weekend I am going to try and add a film breakdown of all the verbals we have so far in this thread, so they get some love instead of just having them in red...:osu:

QB: Still think we take one...
RB: Berry (looking very good, not sure on time)
RB: Hall
FB: Boren (Next??)
FB: Homan
WR: Jackson (no clue, but I think we are in great shape)
WR: Fields
WR: Carter (Before his senior season??)
TE: Fragel (soon to make sure his spot is there??)
OL: Linsley (same as Fragel??)
OL: Mewhort
OL: Hall (late, but to the good guys)
DE: Fellows
DE: Newsome (See Hall)
DT: Muldoon (Same as Fragel and Linsley??)
DT: Simon
LB: Bell
LB: Whiting
LB: Klein
CB: Givens
CB: Barnett
CB: McGee (sooner or later??)
S: Hunter (most underrated player on the board, hope to hear more some time)
S: Emilien (soon??)
S: Wood
ATH: Telfort (will the florida guys be able to talk us up enough??)

Is everyone counting out Hyde merely b/c we've heard so little on him over the last month or so? I would love to get both Hyde and Berry. I really think it would behoove us to take 2 every-down backs in this class, and I don't think Hall is that. At the same time, Hall is probably versatile enough to be used in multiple capacities and perhaps even on the defensive side of the ball if it came to it. Everything seemed so promising with Hyde's situation early on, but, despite the fact that we're have a lot of time before signing day, I also realize that we're signing recruits for the '09 class at record pace. Is Hyde sweet on another program, just taking his time, or are we all rushing to judgment when discounting him?

I think most are because the style of offense we are turning to doesn't need a Hyde-type back. Berry will play the role of Pittman when Troy was our QB, the same spread-the-field offense we'll use with Pryor. I honestly think that Jermil Martin can play the big back role for us if need be, but don't discount Beanie being here a fourth year either. Herron and Saine are already here too and they're just studs, period. In 2010 there is Spencer Ware and Eric Howard in Ohio, both big backs. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to land Hyde, but I believe that Berry and Hall would be perfect for this class at RB.

We still had Beanie when Troy was here. I think Tressel likes the speed-power combo.

All you guys aren't accounting for scholarships JT gives walk ons each year. Sure, last year, we didn't have any scholarships to give because it was a fairly small class, but with a large class this year, we can count on JT to give 2 or maybe 3 schollies to walk ons. Bless his heart.

I don't think any walkons get schollies this year. Scholarships usually go out when we don't fill up a class. This has happened a few times, and a few times walk ons have gotten scholarships. However, I really don't think you'll see Tressel cut into this years scholarship count to give walkons scholarships. Now, if there are one or two still sitting around as we near and pass signing day? In that scenario I could see Tressel holding a scholarship for a walk on. I just don't see them planning on it now.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if we fill up fully, we'll be at the 85 man limit, no?

Just poking a little fun at RB's math...

But, you really think Tressel will take that many? I knew he could take extra for early enrollee's sake, but it seems out of character. I guess its a good problem to have that this many dynamic players want to play for the Buckeyes. I'm trying to figure out 6 DBs from the same class get on the field. But how in the world would you choose. Its just insane.

Exactly why I'm not a math major  If we reach 26, that is my projection. If we hit 25, drop Adams.

Do you think we only take three oline this year since Boren will be coming in?

Keep in mind that Boren is essentially a JUCO. Generally you are recruiting your OL for 2-4 years down the road - and certainly any 4th OL we pick up would fit in that category.

What's up with Mike Edwards from Glenville? Is he more of a very late offer I was reading on bucknuts how much he wanted to be a Buckeye, and he runs a 4.5 in the 40. Not sure of his status

He is behind some very good players on the board right now...

Guys like Givens, Barnett, McGee are taking the spots that he would have a chance at...
