CB Shaun Wade (1st Team All American, Los Angeles Chargers)

I am confused about the timing but BOL to any of these kids who declare.

Timing is just bizarre though. Early on, season is totally up in the air and they stick it out. Now, seemingly days before they announce a modified fall schedule, you can't wait any longer and declare?

It makes so little sense that we have to be dealing with less information than they are.
I wonder if it's just added pressure to not screw up the decision by the ivory tower folks?

Wade much more than Davis or Fields has a chance to improve his draft stock. Surprising.

Folks talk about he and Davis changing their minds - but are they still enrolled?

I actually think Shaun had the most to lose, personally. It's obviously a weird year under awkward circumstances. Lets suppose he struggled just a bit on the outside, and all of a sudden scouts view him strictly as a nickel/slot CB. His safe top 15 pick standing starts sliding to low 1st round.

Like Fields, I think the main point of coming back was to actually take advantage of the development you get at tOSU to be a better pro when you arrive....and improve stock at same time. Fields wants to play because he knows how much development this season can provide him that will make him a better NFL player....it's not just about draft stock.

I think Wade is limited in how much he can climb from 10-15ish, and actually hurts his stock if playing outside doesn't work like they expect.

I think Wyatt Davis is another guy whose draft position is safely secure and coming back would be solely about chasing a title. Jonah Jackson is starting as a rookie and graded out quite well yesterday. Wyatt Davis is significantly better than Jonah, and the scouts have him squarely as the best guard in the upcoming draft. There's minimal risk in playing for him, so I think the question is truly, is putting the time and effort into this season worth it to chase a Natty? I guess we'll find out.....

Good luck to them all though, and no hard feelings if they decide to stick with their plans of sitting out.

Kid came back for one more season and some old fools took it away from him. I don't blame him for checking out of the B1G's shit show.

Will Fields be far behind?

Best wishes going forward, he was a true playmaker. I can't help but feel this is something of a power move, with the B1G going to announce the season today. His father didn't fly up to Chicago and protest for nothing. No ill will if not, we've exhausted every avenue.

No, Fields will not be behind. As of yesterday, he was still encouraging Big 10 players to hang in there, and stay motivated.

He's playing if there is a fall season. He wants another year with Day to improve as a QB. It's not about his draft stock......it's about becoming "pro-ready" and he knows the development will be huge long-term.

Could have been a selfless move where he stuck around, used some of his name/star power to help others. Now that it’s at the finish line, maybe he’s checked out (or has been checked out/exhausted by everything) and is ready to move on to his career. What’s it worth, an 8 (maybe 9, 10 or 11) game season vs. getting some fronted money from an agency and endorsements for him and the family now.

I also wonder if there’s going to be some “bubble-type” protocols announced that aren’t exactly appealing to a 21 year old who is months away from being a millionaire. It’s one thing for professionals to go on lockdown, away from friends and family for 3-4 months but if these kids can’t have family/friends/girlfriends at games or go out and live life, all with nothing in return, I can’t blame them for skipping.

Also, some of this probably changes if the NCAA had allowed name/image/likeness money this year so guys could make some scratch during all this.

Go train safely, enjoy life and get paid.

This season is such a shitshow. Good for Shaun and his fami,y to get him ready for the NFL. He doesn’t have anything left to prove in college. I’m not sure why fans are so surprised by this,it’s very selfish to expect a kid that can be a 1st round pick to come back for a pseudo-season that will have an asterisk on it and risk injury. The way that the B1G screwed up this season, we shouldn’t expect many of our draft eligible players back if they can be drafted.

Yeah I have been hoping both guys opting out was a power move too but have cooled on that a little.

If they view the season as kind of a waste (kinda true but could always turn out to feel legitimate with a true playoff, etc) and they look at the wildly inept and unpredictable leadership within the B1G (absolutely true with a lasting impression with many) then maybe they wanted to opt out BEFORE the good news because it would be more painful on the fans to announce after the season is back in play.

Point is......maybe the negatives just stacked up so much that their minds were made up and they wanted to make it easier on the public so they weren’t getting their hopes up if the season comes back into play.

Maybe the word is they're not really going to put the season back in play? I guess we'll see soon - it's pretty much now or forget it.
