Canton South at Minerva

SITE: Hines Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

RECORDS: South 2-4, 0-3; Minerva 1-5, 0-3.

LAST WEEK: Louisville 27, South 21 (OT); Alliance 35, Minerva 14.
LAST MEETING: South won 32-7 last year.
WHAT TO WATCH: Two teams enduring tough seasons will look to get something positive going as they head into the stretch. South will be looking to put behind last week’s crushing loss. The Wildcats lost a 21-0 lead in the final 6:42 of regulation before falling in overtime to Louisville. It was the type of win that could have turned South’s season around. Now, the Wildcats look to regroup and build on the things that did go well last week. South QB Ronnie May went 14-for-26 passing for 202 yards, including a 30-yard TD to Aaron Forte. May also ran for a score. Two receivers, Cory Bourquin and Antwon Ervin, each caught six balls. South needs more of that to open up a running game that has done little this season. The Wildcats average 101.5 yards rushing per game, gaining just 68 last week. Devon Torrence, a 1,000-yard rusher a year ago, has just 324 yards and 3.9 per-carry average. He did make 11 tackles and recover a fumble last week, while brother, Devoe Torrence, made 16 tackles, two for loss. Minerva QB Brandon Phelps ran for a score and threw for another last week. Dustin Fick caught the 28-yard TD pass. The Lions must tighten up their defense. They allowed 24 first downs last week to Alliance, giving up 198 yards rushing and 243 passing.

Canton South at Northwest

SITE Smilek Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

RECORDS Canton South 3-4, 1-3; Northwest 5-2, 3-1.

LAST WEEK Canton South 40, Minerva 6; Louisville 14, Northwest 0.

LAST MEETING Northwest won 42-14 last year.
WHAT TO WATCH The Indians look to keep their NBC hopes alive after losing their first conference game. Northwest was held to 106 yards of offense — just 6 on the ground — but still had chances. The Indians had a touchdown pass called back because of a penalty, a fumbled kickoff return just outside the end zone and a fumble inside the Louisville 30. “That’s three opportunities right there,” Northwest head coach Vic Whiting said. “We take advantage of those, it’s a different game.” South is coming off its best game of the season. The Wildcats ran for 278 yards as Devon Torrence ran for three TDs and Devoe Torrence had two. South QB Ronnie May was 10-of-13 for 146 yards, all in the first half. South head coach Elmer Schuetz was pleased, especially on the heels of an overtime loss to NBC leader Louisville. “That loss took a lot out of us,” Schuetz said of the 27-21 final in which the Wildcats led 21-0 in the fourth quarter. “We played pretty well. Not great. But a lot better than we had at times this season.” Schuetz said senior DB Tony Ash is becoming a leader. Ash also plays some running back and returns kicks. Northwest TB Scott Weber needs 28 yards to reach 1,000, while TE John Bertsch is averaging 21.9 yards per catch.

Rivals $

10/18/05

Rivals has posted 19 clips of Devon playing RB and 3 clips of Devon at DB/special teams. I will let bn44820 do his patented :yow1: review, but I can tell you ahead of time that these clips are impressive to say the least. Every time he touches the ball he is a threat to score. He can run, he can catch, he can return kicks, he can hit, he can play pass coverage, etc. There is a lot to like about this future Buckeye.

We're gonna have Devin Jordan, Devon Lyons, and Devon Torrence all on the same team, playing the same position, at the SAME time. They're gonna have to call them by their last names or come up with nicknames for them, because otherwise, they're just gonna get mixed up!
