CB Chimdi Chekwa (Official Thread)

Chimdi had a very solid game last night and was credited with 10 solo tackles! It seemed like Purdue attacked him thinking he might be a weak link in the secondary. He more than held his own!
Great job, Chimdi!

I agree.. They totally ignored Jenkins last night for obvious reasons. They THOUGHT Chekwa and Washington were better targets but man they really played well last night. I think we have the best corners in the nation, and this doesn't even include Amos who was at one point talked about more than Washington! We are in good shape...

Oh yeah and that Clifford guy too..

Agree with all of the above...I can remember thinking during his recruitment that he was going to have to put in some serious work in the weight room to be able to preform...and boy has he ever...so far this year he has been a very pleasant surprise...

This could be split off into another thread, but it has been interesting observing our opponent's fan bases' reactions after losing to us this year. Immediately, it becomes hard for them to believe they got beat by a "rebuilding year" team, so they base our success on recruiting super-human athletes. What is lost on them is that this isn't the case at all. If Chimdi's performance on the field is a result of the work he has put in practice to improve his game, then JT and Co. are able to find the hardest-working players in the country, not necessarily the most talented.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Whether cornerback Chimdi Chekwa came of age in Ohio State's win at Purdue on Saturday is open to debate, but Big Ten officials were impressed. The redshirt freshman yesterday was named the conference's defensive player of the week. He had a career-high 10 tackles, all solo, as he and the Buckeyes defense blunted the Big Ten's top passing team and No. 1 scoring offense in a 23-7 win.
