CB Bradley Roby (2x All B1G)

I posted it in the game thread I think but I remember Nate Clements having a similar kind of performance against Minnesota in 2000.

It, unfortunately, happens.

I was at that game. Ron Johnson from minn made some $$$ that day but still had nowhere near the NFL career Nate ended up with.

Was Roby playing hurt most of the game? I think that's possible.

Looked like something was up with his lower back after one of the 1st two drives. Not sure how serious though. If back, it's probably at least some what significant when you're trying to cover one of the best WRs in the B10. He seemed to be extremely aggressive at the line as well, but was unable to consistently jam Abbrederis, leading to him getting behind.

I don't know if I just have a lot of faith in Roby because I've seen what he can do and know he's one of the best DBs in the country, or what, but I'm not that concerned about his play. He was given one of the toughest tasks in the game on Saturday, and didn't play well, but I don't think he's gotten worse or anything.

Really?

I saw a player who has gotten complacent and hasn't been challenged for a while. He was too dependant on holding and trying to be "physical" with Abracadabra, instead of just running with him. He maybe needed a wake up call, and he sure got one. Play defense with your feet, not your hands.

I think this game will make him a much better player the rest of the season. What he doesn't need is everybody telling him how difficult his assignment was and that he only got beat a couple of times.

He looked to me like his body tightened up and lost flexibility to rotate his hips. And his speed looked effected, also. He got a bad call on the one interference call.
The TD, he was right there but missed the ball swipe. That's what happens being out on an island.
Refs were inconsistent in calls all over.

What you see is one 3 1/2 hour chunk of an entire week. Does Urban seem like the kind of coach that wouldn't notice his player was complacent and not do anything about it?

Well you'll be happy to know that I don't know him, talk to him, or have any way to get him that message. I doubt anyone on the coaching staff is going easy on him.

For real. Watching the replay now, on Abbrederis' TD he did about everything he could do except locate the ball. Great throw by Stave. Other than that, he could've tightened it up a bit.

Had he looked 1/2 second earlier that ball could have been picked/batted down. Unfortunately, by the time he looked the receiver was in the perfect position to make the grab. No fault on Roby. The coverage was there, it was just a good catch.

Ohio State's Bradley Roby has been criticized for his performance against Wiscosnin WR Jared Abbrederis.

The sophistication of the NFL passing game enables savvy offensive coordinators to exploit mismatches on the perimeter. Play callers will use an assortment of motions and tricky formations to pit their top receiver against an overmatched defender in a one-on-one situation. To combat these tactics, NFL scouts are canvassing the college landscape looking for big, athletic corners with exceptional cover skills and superb instincts.

Heading into the fall, Ohio State CB Bradley Roby was rated as the premier player at his position, with most NFL scouts touting the 5-foot-11, 192-pound redshirt junior as a potential "shutdown" corner at the next level. He entered the season coming off a spectacular sophomore campaign in which he finished as the only defender in the nation to score a touchdown three different ways (recovered a fumbled punt in the end zone vs. Miami; he recovered a blocked punt in the end zone vs. Indiana; and recorded a pick-six score vs. Nebraska) and totaled 17 pass breakups as the Buckeyes' No. 1 corner. Most importantly, Roby exhibited all of the athletic traits and fundamental skills to become a difference maker at the next level.

Roby is going to be a raging lunatic tonight. He hasn't been able to do anything without hearing about Abberdabber. The man can't even order a 1/2lb of wings without someone telling him Abberdaris probably orders a whole pound.
