How about Cougar's son beating the shit out of someone?

Rocker John Mellencamp's two teenage sons face battery charges for allegedly punching and kicking a man during a fight that left the victim with serious facial injuries.

On Thursday, prosecutors in Monroe County, Ind., charged 19-year-old Hud Mellencamp of Nashville, Ind., and 18-year-old Speck Mellencamp, of Bloomington, with one count each of battery resulting in serious bodily injury.

Ty A. Smith, 19, of Bloomington, Ind., faces the same charge in the early morning July 29 attack. The Herald-Times reports that Smith is the son of Indiana University baseball coach Tracy Smith and is a walk-on for IU's football team.

The Bloomington Police Department said in a statement late Thursday afternoon that investigators were trying to contact the Mellencamp brothers and Smith to make arrangements for them to surrender.

A probable cause affidavit states that Speck Mellencamp punched 19-year-old Alexander Bucy in the face on the porch of Bucy's Bloomington home because he thought Bucy had hit him earlier that evening at Bucy's house party. Hud Mellencamp and Smith joined in, and the trio allegedly "punched, kicked and stomped" Bucy, the document states.

When Bucy was able to get to his feet, Speck Mellencamp allegedly knocked him backward off the porch onto a sidewalk two to three feet below, where Speck Mellencamp punched Bucy until someone pulled him away. The Mellencamp brothers and Smith then allegedly ran from the scene.

Like it or not, because of the Hernandez thing, Urban has to take a really firm stance regardless of whether he thinks hitting a bouncer is as bad as hitting a girl or not. Not the end of the world for the team or for Roby. Probably best for all involved. Fair to Hyde. Gets some young guys some valuable game experience. Much better than several months in jail. OK. Think I'm done, unless I get into personal stories (good and bad) about Dunnkirk and the family of Kilroy's (Kirkwood, Sports, Dunnkirk) bars that run Bloomington's over 21 scene. Now moving into Indianapolis and soon Chicago.

Had some memories...that I forget.

Ohio State football: Roby’s charge might get dismissed

Video of an incident outside a Bloomington, Ind., bar involving Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby appeared to be instrumental in the Monroe County prosecutor?s decision yesterday to offer a diversion program ? which could result in the case being dismissed.

The Dispatch obtained a supplemental police report last night that is based on a police officer?s description of the video. The report contradicts the description in the original police report that caused Roby to be charged with misdemeanor battery and portrays him as more victim than perpetrator.

Roby, an all-Big Ten selection last year and considered a likely first-round NFL draft pick in 2014, was arrested outside the Dunnkirk Bar on July 21.

Sources indicate that the prosecutor?s office did not receive the video until this week. The charge was downgraded yesterday morning to disorderly conduct, a class B misdemeanor. Battery is a class A misdemeanor. Yesterday afternoon, the prosecutor?s office announced the offer of a diversion program. There was no word whether Roby will accept that program, though a deputy prosecutor said a receipt had been posted of payment for it.

The video appears to be the cause for the change. Officer Jordan Hasler, the second police officer to arrive at the scene, wrote in the supplemental report that he was shown video by the bar manager. Hasler wrote that the video showed Dunnkirk employees carrying Roby down stairs and out of the bar in what appeared to be a shoulder lock while grabbing his legs and lower torso.

This is the last I'm going to say about this matter as there are a number of things that are clear to me and many others who responded to you. They are:
1) One benefits from being fully read on a topic before posting.

2) Falling back to a position of 'but it said XYZ' in one post without completing your due diligence is an excuse that doesn't cut it.

3) Continuing to defend yourself in the light that seemingly most everyone else was up to speed on the topic is childish.

4) Taking the gentle and not so gentle hints from the community as a suggestion as to the expectations we have for each other is something one should strongly consider.

5) Being defensive in this group, when you're clearly in the minority (right or wrong) is equivalent of wearing a shit magnet while walking through the hog barns at the state fair. Thick skin is recommended if you want to forgo paying attention to the first four items in this list.

6) If you feel bashed by me, I offer you a sincere apology. I made light of your initial post and then after repeatedly stomping your foot and saying, 'but... but...' when others called you out, I offered a, at least what I felt to be, level headed response. I don't think it appropriate to bash someone because of an oversight. But to that end, make no mistake, if I were to bash you, it would be very clear.

I'm going to thank you in advance for doing your homework prior to your next post.

I'm betting the charges will be dropped based on the fustercluck of conflicting testimonies, lies about a video being available etc. I don't have a prediction how Urban will handle it if they are dismissed; hopefully, time served.

I really respect the message that Urban is sending to all the student athletes. Screw up, shed a negative light on this University
and this football program and you are going to pay for it.

Some student athletes will never learn. Hopefully, though, the
message throughout the team will sound an alarm and people
will think long and hard before they put themselves in a possible
bad situation.

He shouldn't be suspended at all based on the information that has come out over the last couple of days.

I understand sending a message, but if this is in response to the "spotlight" that's on Urban Meyer because of the Hernandez case then the only message Meyer is sending is that he can be manipulated by media coverage of him and his team.

If the articles that I'm reading are accurate then Roby didn't do anything other than respond after multiple physical provocations. Some meat head bouncers want to go all alpha ape on a guy and then lie about it. I'm curious about the handcuffing by the "security" at this place. Since when do bouncers have the authority to hand cuff someone?

Sorry for the rant, but I just read a very sympathetic article in SI about Money Badger and I'm sick and tired of every fucking school in America getting a free pass except Urban Meyer and Ohio State.

Roby shouldn't miss a minute of time because of this. It's absolutely stupid.
