Awesome news about armani! He must have some really good cover skills to be so short and not the prototypical build that we're now bringing in at DB, long, rangy, athletic types who played multiple positions in HS mostly over 6'0. Glad to hear that his talent is making up for his size

Armani Reeves in line to replace Roby

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The arrangement is temporary in the starting lineup, and there?s not much guaranteed even after the first snap.

Armani Reeves will take what he can get and make the most of it, though, even if the circumstances that will lead to the sophomore?s first start when the season opens next week aren?t exactly ideal.

Reeves is certainly aware of how short his stay with the first unit in place of Ohio State?s star junior Bradley Roby might be following the announcement of a one-game suspension tied to Roby's arrest for an incident at a bar last month. But the Buckeyes didn?t waste much time elevating Reeves on the depth chart, either, at least offering a suggestion that he might be leading a talented pack of defensive backs pushing the established starters for playing time.

?Obviously, [Roby] is one of the best in the country, if not the best,? Reeves said after practice Monday. ?When he comes back, I?m still going to do the same thing I?ve been doing the whole time, and that?s just working hard. If I?m on the field at corner, I?m going to go hard. And if I?m not, I?m going to go hard on special teams.

?It doesn?t matter if he?s on the field or not, I?m just going to do my job and help this team any way I can.?

Ohio State cornerbacks coach Kerry Coombs likes the way Reeves has progressed this year.

“(He had) an incredible offseason, great spring, worked really hard, understands the game, very committed, very focused,’’ Coombs told reporters in Columbus. “(He) still has to play, so we’ll find out on (Saturday), but he’s going to line up and he’s going to play and I’m excited to see him play.’’

Ohio State foootball: Armani Reeves, back in role as sub, starring on special teams

  • BERKELEY, Calif. — Headed into a game last night at California, Ohio State defensive back Armani Reeves already had shown his worth to the Buckeyes, and he had a T-shirt to prove it.

    He started the first two games at cornerback while all-Big Ten junior Bradley Roby served a one-game suspension and then a no-start penalty.

    Roby took over three plays into a win over San Diego State last week, but Reeves still found a way to prove his value, being named the special-teams player of the week, primarily for his work on kickoff coverage.

    “You get a nice T-shirt, and you get recognized by your team for all the hard effort,” Reeves said. “That’s a reward in itself, all the guys clapping for you, seeing on film that you did your job well. That’s a great feeling.”

    What kind of T-shirt?

    “It has a skull on it and it says ‘Special Forces,’” Reeves said. “It’s pretty intimidating. My mom got scared when I showed her pictures of it.”

Had another pick Saturday but it was called back. Kid is really finding his niche, imo. The first game start seems to have done wonders for him even though he had a little bit of a rough day against Buffalo. Improvement for this young guy is the key and he's doing well.
