CM's Reeves: 'It's going to be fun, I can't wait'
February, 1, 2012
By Brendan Hall

WEST ROXBURY, Mass. -- Just days after pledging a verbal commitment to Ohio State, Catholic Memorial athlete Armani Reeves signed a National Letter of Intent to the Buckeyes this morning in a ceremony on the school's campus. Reeves was joined by the Knights' other signees, linebacker Cam Williams (Ohio State), quarterback A.J. Doyle (UMass) and defensive back Donovan Henry (Northeastern track and field).

Reeves has not spoken publicly about his commitment since announcing his plans to sign with Ohio State on his Twitter account Sunday night. This morning, he broke his silence to several local reporters on hand at the ceremony.

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Easton native, is the state's No. 1 overall prospect. He was also named ESPN Boston's Offensive Player of the Year this past season, and is a two-time selection to ESPN Boston's MIAA All-State Team. He initially committed to Penn State last August, but opened things up again following a highly-publicized scandal with the Nittany Lions' coaching staff.

Reeves spoke with ESPNBoston.com one-on-one following his signing.

On the deciding factors in his decision: "Ohio State, you know, they're a great University, and it fit me academically with what I wanted to do with computer science, computer graphics. I know coach [Everett] Withers for about four years, because he coached down at North Carolina with Brennan [former CM lineman and UNC tackle Brennan Williams], so I had a good relationship with him already. That was just...God blessed me with him being my coach, and knowing him already, I was happy about that. And just playing for Urban Meyer, being part of a great university, playing in front of 105,000 people every week, it's just going to be fun. I can't wait."

Props to Armani for possibly being our first recruit ever to rock a rat-tail with pride. Keeping it late-80's...I LIKE IT. After reading that article, I like the way he looks at things and shares his opinions...seems like a well-spoken, bright kid.

?It?s a blessing to be in the spot that I?m in,?? said Reeves, who ran for more than 1,000 yards and scored 16 touchdowns for CM. ?If you asked me a couple of years ago, I didn?t think I was going to be here. To be able to do this in front of my family and friends, and do it alongside three teammates, is unreal.??

Williams and Reeves, both Globe All-Scholastics in the fall, originally declared their intentions to play at Penn State next fall. But the fallout from the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal, which cost longtime coach Joe Paterno his job, changed matters for both players.

?It was shocking, to say the least,?? Reeves said. ?When Coach Paterno got fired, it really hurt me because I had known him for a while, before he even started recruiting me. I had a great relationship with him, and to see everything spiral out of control was really sad.??

Williams and Reeves said their decisions to decommit from Penn State and sign with Ohio State were made independently.

?We said at the beginning of this process we wanted to go to the school that was best for us individually, best for me and best for him,?? said Reeves, who chose Ohio State over Michigan. ?It just works out for both of us, Cam at linebacker and me at cornerback, that we?ll have a chance to play right away.??

Reeves, a 5-10 defensive back/receiver/kick returner, went back-and-forth for a few weeks between Michigan and Ohio State.

?It definitely made me grow up a lot,? said Reeves. ?People were saying negative things about Penn State, and Penn State is a great school. Joe Paterno did a lot more good (for the school) than bad. What he?s done for that university is great. They are going to win games and I know (Bill O?Brien) is going to do a heck of a job there and I can?t wait to play them every year.

?Getting to know (O?Brien) was really good and getting to know all of the coaches there, but at the end of the day I just felt more comfortable at Ohio State.?

Ohio State Football: Getting to Know Recruits Camren Williams and Armani Reeves
By Michael Chung

Armani Reeves and Camren Williams will play at OSU. Brent Williams is one proud papa.

I recently had the chance to have a conversation with Mr. Brent Williams, who has a lot of football in his family. His oldest son, Brennan, plays at North Carolina, and his younger son and godson, Camren Williams and Armani Reeves, are part of the 2012 recruiting class for Ohio State. Mr. Williams had some very enlightening thoughts on Ohio State football from the perspective of a former football player while also having three boys go through the recruiting process.

Q: You went on official visits to Ohio State; what stood out to you and the boys?

BW: Camren and Armani had an advantage; my older son, Brennan, visited schools prior to committing to North Carolina. The boys went on a lot of these visits, so they already knew about schools and what they were looking for.

In Camren?s case, he already had in his mind what he wanted in a school academically and socially, as well as football. Camren had attended football camps at OSU, so he already had a good idea of what OSU was like. His top two schools during the recruiting process were Penn State and Ohio State.

One thing that stood out during Camren?s visit was the presentation by Dr. Devor, part of the Exercise Science program at Ohio State. He carefully explained OSU?s program, how it differed from other programs. This gave both Camren and I a lot of comfort.

Coach Meyer also told me that Camren?s position, linebacker, was a huge need for the Buckeyes, as well as explaining how academics fit into football. Camren also loves campuses that have downtowns filled with streets and stores. High Street was a big plus.

Two things really stick out from that article:
1) Interesting that Withers was a tipping point for landing Armani
2) That OSU and tsun were the schools that were "professional" and not disrespectful of the PSU situation. Mentioned "other" Big Ten schools that Mr. Williams could not say the same thing about...I would be really curious to know if MSU or Bucky are among those schools.

I would bet Pete Rose any amount of money that Bret the Badger penis was definitely one of them.
