Hmm, well how does Lebron stack up to Jordan purely on potential? Jordan's heyday was a little before my time so I never had the oppurtunity to watch him in person, but I would think that with Lebron's size and athleticism he at least has the potential to be better than Jordan. I mean if he could perfect his already improved jumper and maximize his post game he would literally be unstoppable, right? But again, having never seen Jordan play, I'm really not the best person to make any kind of comparison.

Great players? Really? I mean they were good... no question... but Jordan made those guys better, as LeBron does. I don't remember Ho Grant kicking much arse with the Magic.... would we remember who Stever Kerr was if he had been on any other team? I'll give you Rodman, in the sense that he was great at a couple things. I'm still not sure how "Great" Pippen was. Very good, no doubt. Luc Longley?

James is incredible... no doubt... but the Cavs (now) have very good role players as well... and... James will take over games. Jordan's physical tools-- while considerable-- were secondary to his ability to take over games and completely impose his will.

In the end, they are different players and I'd prefer no comparison be made at all. Remember, Jordan was a scorer first (who also was the league defensive player of the year in '88.) James rebounds more.... probably gets more assists (though i'm not sure)... etc... he may physically be the ultimate basketball machine.

I guess my point is that Jordan's greatness was more in the intangibles that went along with an amazing skill set. He was a stone cold killer on the court.

It's not to say James won't get there, but, we need to see it first.

If James is not equal or perhaps better than Jordan at his age I guess nobody ever will be. Let's also remember that this is the first year that Lebron had some guys around him there were pretty decent. Jordan, for the most part, always had Scottie to cover is back.

Jordan was the defensive player of the year in '88 well Lebron had the second most votes this year for defensive player of the year.

I will grant you that they are different players and do different things but I don't think that there is any comparison to Jordan at the same age to Lebron. I mean Lebron is only 24 years old and when did Jordan star winning championships. I also think that Lebron can do more things on a basketball court than Jordan could right now regardless of age.

WORD!!!! ive never liked jordan so i am biased but this post sums it up...

MJ got swept by Boston in round 1 in 87, just like 86. In 85 they lost 1-3 to Milwaukee in rd 1.

Both won first MVP at age 24. His block numbers would drop off severely after the above year.

Also, Michael was an 18% 3pt guy at age 23 & before.

That's probably why they should not be compared. MJ could be a 1/2/3, while LeBron could be a 1/2/3/4 and probably a 5.

How about we just agree they are/were both awesome.

I'll wait until LeBron wins his FIRST championship to extol his virtues.

One thing about Lebron is that he really does get better every single year. Before long, he'll be winning D-POY regularly.

For sure, his speed, power, strength and leaping ability are matched by no one in the history of the game.

When I say potential, I'm referring to how many championships Lebron could win. In basketball, more than any other sport, your legacy is and should be, determined by titles. And that's because it's the one sport where you can take over the game individually AND where you can make your teammates better.
