Cavs 09-10 Season (official thread)

That's a good thing. I know the Wizards are in payroll slashing mode, but they've also traded away their entire starting frontcourt in the past week. Skinner could give them a warm body to play out the string, allowing them to buyout Z. I hope that's what happens. This is a good deal for the Cavs and it had to be done, but I want Z to be able to come back and be a part of this.

washington is still on the hook for the remainder of Z's salary for the year. they can buy him out at a fraction of it, and he can resign for the BAE/MLE with the cavs in 30 days.

washington is dumping salary and contracts, they have no reason to keep him. they don't want his bird rights as they aren't going to sign him after the season.

they would essentially be paying about $3 million to spite the cavs by not buying him out. the whole reason the clippers were brought in to the fold was to give washington enough young talent to allow them to cut Z.

The problem is the Cavs used up their BAE & MLE to sign Moon, Parker and company. Not sure how much they have left, but Z would almost have to take the Vet minimum to resign with the Cavs.

This is the scary part... could another team that has a full MLE swoop in to sign Z? Dallas is rumored to be interested in signing him.

The one thing that worries me is this is when sitting Z for that one game when he was set to get the most games played as a Cavalier could come back and bite them in the ass.

The more and more I find out about the financials, the more confident I am that Z gets bought out.

From Windhorst:

Wizards are now roughly within $1 million of the luxury-tax threshold, a major reason to seek a buyout from Ilgauskas. 20 minutes ago from web

The Cavs have their $1.99 million bi-annual exception left they can use to sign bought out players. 20 minutes ago from web

Getting to the under the cap is a bigger deal than it sounds like, too. You go from paying a luxury tax to receiving a revenue sharing check. Seems to me that the financial benefit to buying out Ilgauskas would be more than just the savings on his salary.

Cavs can offer him $2 million of bi-annual exception to give Z. I firmly believe he will be back. I think he wants to be in Cleveland and understands this move and I'm sure Lebron talked to him about this possibility even though the organization isn't suppossed to. Like Windhorst mentioned, they got Skinner to play center and they still have Blatche and McGee. Whats the use for Z and it saves them more money to cut him. What this really means is that we won't see much at all of Leon Powe for the rest of the season.

Would it have been better to make no moves over 7 years to not build a team around him?

They are moves that only work if Lebron stays and commits to the franchise. If we don't win a title this year and he leaves, I'm going to be pretty salty about it because we will have nothing to show for all of it (except a mass exodus of bandwagoners - most of which I can easily peg anyway).

I still hold out hope that Z will be back (which I actually think will happen), but if we don't get him back, I would hate to think we sold him out for nothing.

I don't think they sold him out for nothing, and I don't think he'd believe that either. Pretty obvious that they're going for it all this year. And wait to say they sold him out for nothing until we know 1) that he's not coming back and 2) if the Cavs win it all.

They're going for it all. I'm glad they are. This is their year to do it. I'd rather them try to improve the team than not..

A move that would hurt the team's future would be trading JJ. They didn't do that. They traded an aging player who might still return. Getting all worked up over nothing at this point IMO.

Cavs strike deal for Wizards' Jamison - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

The Cavaliers? decision to acquire Jamison came a day after talks between the teams intensified and shortly after the Phoenix Suns informed Cleveland its offer for Amar?e Stoudemire ? Ilgauskas, J.J. Hickson, Danny Green and a first-round pick ? wasn?t good enough.

The Jamison trade is that much better now.

Thank you Danny Ferry. Once we re-sign Z, we'll have traded just a 1st rounder for Antwan Jamison. Very very nice.

I hope you're right, because otherwise, I just lost all respect for this franchise and couldn't give a rat's ass if they win another game this year.

Hopefully getting "Big-Z" back is part of the arrangement.

In a day and age where athletes use the phrase "it's a business" instead of "it's great to be here," "Z" has been the one guy in Cleveland Sports that's exemplified consistently that he was indeed just happy to be "here."

This guy could have just basically quit as a very rich man many years ago due to his persistent health issues. Instead, he works his ass off and endures numerous surgeries to present himself as one of the greatest players this franchise has ever had.

I would have rather that the team with the best record in the league just do "nothing."

However, if somehow the Cavaliers can get "Z" back this year, then all will be forgiven (not forgotten.) A Cavs Championship ceremony without "Z" on the roster will be a travesty. And again, if he's not here to enjoy it, then I basically hope that they don't get it.

JMO

Peace
