Can Frye shoot? 4 out of the 5 on the floor need to be a threat from 10+ feet.

He's decent from outside...

Enough to space the floor with Shaq or Andy. Nice pick n' pop game potential with him and Bron or Mo

Also a quote from an article about Frye

Free agent focus
The Cavs agreed to a six-year, $50 million deal with Anderson Varejao on Wednesday.

But they are far from being over. My guess is that they split the $5.8 million mid-level exception in half and made offers to guard/forward Anthony Parker and forward/center Channing Frye.

That adds up to about $2.9 million to each player. Parker, 34, could be signed for two years, maybe three. The 6-6, 215-pounder could be the athletic wing defender they so desperately need.

Frye, a 6-10, 235-pounder, is not a banger inside by any means. He's a finesse big, who can shoot the 18-footer.

If he turns down their deal, they could offer part of their mid-level to Joe Smith.

I'm sold. I just wonder if they have anything left to sign him. I think I've heard the Suns are interested.

I think so, he's been quoted as saying he thinks he "fits in very well with the Cavs." At the beginning of free agency, most people thought he could've been had with the BAE, but we're offering a little more than that, with the rest of the MLE from the Parker deal. Hopefully he accepts.

Would Andy be the starter? Just for lineup purposes, if Frye did come here, would he start?

Starters:
Mo
West/Parker
James
Frye
Shaq

2nd Unit:
Boobie
West
Parker
Andy
Z

It seems it would be better floor spacing with those lineups. I know Andy's being paid too much to be a backup compared to our other salaries...but still.

If they get Frye, I think he starts. Andy off the bench. I'm not sure how much Andy and Shaq will be together. I do know Andy will see alot of time with LeBron.

Mo
Parker
LeBron
Frye
Shaq

Delonte
Boobie
Lebron
Andy
Z

They still may get someone for the 3 with the BAE, or the balance of the MLE. Most likely the BAE because it needs to be used. I still like Kleiza because he can be 3 or 4 and he's physical. Sure, Denver can give more but after re-signing Birdman have you looked at their cap numbers for this year and next ?

I know LaMarcus Aldridge is a great player, but even still, Channing Frye only averaged 10 minutes a game in Portland last year. I just don't se that being inserted into the starting line-up. I think Ben Wallace's injury last year, was Anderson's passage into the starting line-up for good. Frye will be a role player off the bench, IMO.

If he was 24 the Cavs wouldn't be able to afford him.

Plus, the Cavs are young enough overall that they can afford to take on an older player or two without having to worry.

also, he spent a lot of time in the euroleauges, which have shorter games and shorter seasons. so, he has a bit less mileage on him.

I think the Cavs are definitely targeting Frye now who would be a good fit. Probably the other half of the midlevel on a two or three year deal more than likely. He is a good pick and pop guy.

I believe this is the plan. And they'll save the BAE for the deadline in case someone were to get bought out and we wanted to pick them up. Ala Joe Smith. I've heard Z's name thrown around using this strategy where we trade him and he doesn't even leave Cleveland and gets bought out by his new team and returns after 30 days like McDyess did last year in the AI/Billups trade.

Frye to PHX for 2-yr/3.8 mil, according to Yahoo! Sports.

If it's 3.8 per season it's more than the Cavs could match. Just proves it's always about the money. I'd say bring back Joe Smith and save the rest in case anyone worthwhile gets bought out. On the bright side most of the other contenders have used everything that they have already and the Cavs still have a couple 2-3 mil contracts that they can give out. I'm pretty happy with the roster right now, especially if you add Smith's shooting from the 4. I would look into Powe for the right price.
