Cavs 09-10 Season (official thread)

Didn't do a search so forgive me, could the max players with options pick up those options and roll the dice for 2011-2012 with the collective bargaining agreement needing to be renegotiated?

Yes they could but they're all better off signing extensions this year, which pick up after their option year. Don't be suprised to see alot of the big name players that have options, pick them up this year and sign the extension shortly, including LeBron. I'm not sure, but I think the current Cap doesn't take effect until the season starts so by signing before then, they get more becasue the max number is based on the current cap. If they wait until next year, then pick up their option or decline it, the extension will be based on this years lower cap or, even worse, next years much lower cap.

I know OH10 has a bad feeling, but I really do think LeBron signs his extension before this season starts. It may only be a 3 year extension added on to his option next year (17+MM), but would take him out until the '14/'15 season at which time the cp number should be better.

Yea, the numbers are a little high for AV but since only a portion of the last year is guaranteed, that makes it a little better. Actually, only 42.5MM is guaranteed. His cap number is 6.5 this coming season, 7.1 next season and 7.8 in '11/'12, not too horrible.

Sure his offensive game is limited but he did lead the team in FG percentage. He'll go back to coming off the bench this year becasue the Cavs are still going to get a stretch forward (hopefully Kielezaaa). He can play the 4 or 5 and , aside from Howard, he can hang with most 5's in the league. Most important of all: Lebron loves him .

I love the Parker signing as well. It was time to finally get a 2 with some length, which should put Delonte as the 6th man which should be great for the 2nd team play and scoring.

Actually, AV's deal is 6 years $42.5 million, which could reach $50 if he hits incentives, which he probably won't. the final year also isn't guaranteed.

so essentially, the cavs got AV for a long term MLE deal with max raises.

Thanfully that part came out regarding incentives and what the contract really is for. Cuz the original $50 for 6 years just pissed me off to no end. The 6.5 mil to start is much more like his real value so I can live with it.

Will be interesting to find out how much Parker got, cuz right now depending on how much the salary cap drops next season, we might not be able to do a 2nd max contract besides LeBron.

They're forecasting the cap to drop by even more next year. I'm not sure in that case that anybody is gonna be able to offer two max contracts.

That may turn out being helpful in keeping LeBron if it comes to pass. If New York can't present the option of teaming him up with LeBron, then what does that leave? Either LeBron stays with his team or he goes to play with a bunch of garbage in NY.

with the cap drop, nobody is going to be able to sign 2 max deals.

parker is rumored to have gotten $3.5-$4.5 million on a 2 year deal. that's a good signing for cleveland value wise.

for those interested, a typical MLE deal with the normal 8% raises equates to 5 years $34+ million. If you could add a 6th year to it, take a wild guess as to what it would equate to...$42 million.

If it drops to the worst case scenario, you are right. But the interesting aspect is the max deal number are directly tied to what the Salary Cap is. So the lower the cap the lower a max deal can be.

So technically based on my understanding of the rules (max deal is 30% of cap) LeBron would actually make more money for the 2010-2011 season if he picked up his option versus opting out and signing a new deal.

that is true. he would probably be best served financially to sign an extension before that cap value is set for 2010. i'm willing to bet you will see wade and bosh both sign extensions, as well as some other FA's.

I see Kliezla's name thrown around as a possible option but does anyone else think that maybe Glenn Davis might not be a bad player to go after?

I'm not sure how much more money the Cavs have to throw around. I don't think I could deal with Baby. We need a 4 with a mid range game and I'm not sure if any of these guys have one. We are already going to have issues with the lane getting clogged. I also doubt that the Cavs are going to sign anymore multi-year deals that will reduce the money that they have to spend next summer. I wouldn't mind seeing them bringing back Joe Smith on a one year deal since he can hit a shot at the 4. Otherwise I see Lebron playing a lot of 4 this year, which isn't really a bad thing.

orlando is rumored to be going after davis, and will probably offer him more than they should since they've lost so much.

on AV's contract:

-he has to make the All-Star game a few times within the life of his contract to get the incentives.
-the final year is $10.3 million, only 3 of which is guaranteed.

this was a good deal for the cavs.

Actually I wouldn't mind throwing a small deal at Leon Powe. We have enough depth (with Z, Shaq, AV, Hickson & Jackson) to let him get healthy and he can be a key contributor with his playoff experience.

I've heard he would be a good guy to bring in. I bet he'd be a good guy to have against the Celtics in the playoffs.
