Cavs 09-10 Season (official thread)

Cavs to work out former Bobcats power forward Sean May

The Cavs search for possible free agents to bring aboard to help the team will continue Wednesday, as reports are the team will work out former Tar Heel and Charlotte Bobcat power forward Sean May. He is listed as 6-9, 266 pounds, and appeared in just 24 games with the Bobcats last season due to weight and knee problems. The Bobcats cut the former lottery pick this summer.

In 82 career games with Charlotte, May averaged 18:41 minutes per game, 8.5 points per game and 5 rebounds per game. Last season he put up a career low 3.9 points per game, and 2.9 rebounds per game. He does have some game when it comes to rebounds, and that along with his rather large size makes him an interesting possible fit for the Cavs.

Despite weight problems a season ago, some reports out of the Las Vegas summer league say that May is in the best shape of his career. One issue is the fact he's never been able to play in more than 35 games per season, making the possible signing a risk at best.

Seeking a bargain shooter, Cleveland Cavaliers take a look at Warriors free agent Kurz - cleveland.com

It seems first-round draft pick Christian Eyenga is starting to settle in to playing in the U.S. After a tepid beginning last weekend, Eyenga's confidence is starting to grow. He scored 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting in the Cavs' 96-93 loss to the Washington Wizards Tuesday.
Some of Eyenga's points came against legit NBA players such as Nick Young, who led the Wizards with 36 points, and Javaris Crittenton. The Cavs brought in an interpreter Tuesday to help Eyenga as he learns English. But he showed some comfort catching and scoring in the post as well as shooting from the outside. He's 11-of-19 from the floor over the last two games.
There was never any question about his athleticism, what the Cavs want to know is how far along is his skill development. The more time he's on the floor, the more the team's brass is being impressed. Cavs coach Mike Brown and assistant general managers Lance Blanks and Chris Grant watched the game against the Wizards.

I haven't watched any of the summer league games, but it looks like Jawad Williams has been one of the more impressive guys so far. He's 6'9" and can shoot so he might be a good guy to have back on the bench this year. The Cavs need guys who can play the 4 and shoot. Everything I've heard about Williams is that he dominated the D league when he was there last year.
Hopefully Eyenga ends up being a steal in the draft although the Cavs could have had him later if they had wanted to wait. I guess you don't draft guys like Eyenga and Hickson to help right away, but when you give them time to develop you end up with a better NBA player in the long run. If you need bench depth right away outside of the top 10-15 picks you get guys like Jackson and Green.
After next year the Cavs are probably going to be in the luxury tax for the rest of the Lebron era so they need to draft well to develop their own talent or have assets to trade for other players.

Basketball: NBA Sports News at wabc

The Cleveland Cavaliers have continued their offseason remodeling by signing restricted free agent Jamario Moon to an offer sheet, according to NBA front-office sources.Full details of the offer sheet are unlikely to be known until Monday, when the contract is submitted to the league office. League rules dictate that offer sheets must span three years in length, but sources told ESPN.com that the deal is likely guaranteed for only the first two years.

The Miami Heat will have seven days to match the offer once it's formally processed, but Cleveland would appear to have a good chance of landing Moon given Miami's well-chronicled desire to avoid new contracts longer than one year to protect its 2010 salary-cap space
Moon, 29, is a 6-foot-8 late bloomer with career averages of 7.8 points and 5.4 rebounds since breaking into the NBA with the Toronto Raptors in 2007-08. Miami acquired him in February in the Shawn Marion-Jermaine O'Neal trade.

I really like the move by Ferry... he is a big upgrade over Wally, he's taller, plays better D, is much more athletic, and isn't that much worse of a shooter given Wally's performance last year.

Compare this athleticism to Wally "cement shoes" Szczerbiak

Its gonna be fun at the Q next year with Lebron and this guy dunking all over and Shaq inside...

Both of the moves since Shaq tell me that the Cavs are going to be running smaller lineups this year with Lebron at the 4. After watching that video Moon looks like another cutter that Lebron can find going to the hoop.

Shaq to star in own TV show

NBA star Shaquille O'Neal is getting ready to multitask. The four-time hoops champion, who joins the Cleveland Cavaliers next season, will star in "Shaq Vs.," an ABC reality series that pits him against top athletes in their own sports. Filming begins Wednesday in Pittsburgh, where Shaq takes on Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in football. Future hourlong episodes will pit him against Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, retired boxer Oscar De La Hoya, St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, tennis pro Serena Williams and beach volleyball Olympians Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh.

Any word on how Ivan Harris was doing in his quest to make the Cavs?

edit: As I did some reading of this thread I do believe I have answered my own question. I highly doubt we will see Ivan on the Cavs as they seem to have gotten what they needed.

I like the Jamario Moon signing, we have essentially replaced Wally and Pavs with Moon and Parker. Major upgrade in athleticism. ( I almost guarantee the Heat won't match, they don't want to hurt there 2010 cap space, have a ton of wings, and are trying to get Odom.)
