Cavs 09-10 Season (official thread)

I think this is a team that consistently gets to the Eastern Conference Finals and occasionally the NBA Finals. You make a move like this to put you over the hump.
I thought Shaq was supposed to be that move.... Getting over the hump was beating the Lakers and Magic, the two teams that were better than us. We are 4-0 against them without Amare, by all means this move is not necessary, however interesting it seems.

Now if the question is whether this improves the team than that is yet to be seen, Ferry seems to think so, I'll trust him until he's proven wrong.

OK.. I'll make the trade assuming Z gets let go and 30 days later, he's back with us to get his ring... then I trade my 1st round draft choice to Phoenix for JJ...

I love fantasy land

Call me a visionary, but I'm thinking past the 2009-2010 season.

Lots of good stuff in this thread, here is my 2 cents:

Love this trade. Love it. I have put a lot of thought into it, this is not my initial reaction.

I think we might be the best team in the league. We will most likely post the best regular season record in the league.

But what did that get us last year? Now I know this years team is already better than last years, but we had 2 problems last year in the playoffs:

1) Matching up with the size and skill set of the Orlando Magic

2) A legit #2 scorer next to Lebron (Mo Williams let us all down last season in that series).

Stoudemire gives you that. Mike Brown will get him to play defense.

It is a risky move but if it doesnt work out, we are not stuck with him forever. We are essently getting one of the top 10-15 players in the league for JJ Hickson. I know Hickson has come on as of late, but you have to make this move.

Thats the biggest question...

While Mo Williams is not the leagues greatest defender, he did not play defense until he became a Cavalier and bought into the system.

Stoudemire has 2 huge reasons to buy into the same system and play defense:

1) NBA championship.

2) Huge contract in the future.

I believe he will. If he doesnt, he is shooting himself in the foot and not only will his reputation be permanently damaged, but he will cost himself millions of $$$$

Soooo.... you'll be trading the younger player who is steadily improving for an older player who may have reached his ceiling? If you're thinking about the future wouldn't it make more sense to develop the younger player?

It's laughable to suggest J.J. Hickson has a cieling anywhere near Amare's, who I think will be hitting his prime in the next three years. "Older" doesn't mean a thing when a guy isn't even in his 30's.

Why is 20 - 8 laughable for JJ?

He is a 7.4 / 4.4 in 19 minutes per game in his 2nd year.

Amare is getting 34 minutes per game.

JJ's ceiling is plenty high enough.

This. Is. True.

Especially between Shaq & Lebron.

Adding Amare makes the Cavs practically impossible to defend.

With his ability to hit a mid range jump shot and his ability to finish anything near the rim, doubling Shaq in the post like teams have done all year long suddenly looks foolish.

I do not know about 26 points a game (doesnt Lebron average around 29?) but his production would definitely go up one would think.

J.J. was a first round draft pick dude, he's legit talent. Amare is definetley a baller but your acting like he's destined to be a legend and J.J. is some scrub. Amare isn't 30 yet, but he's still got 6 years on J.J., and he's had knee problems which adds some years on your body.

Put Amare at the 4 and those numbers look more like 26-12, I'd bet.
Maybe, that's the positives of this deal, maybe Amare tears it up. But you can't know that for sure, and this team is the best in the league with or without him IMHO. Which is why I don't think this trade is necessary and it may mess with the team's very positive chemistry which I think is our biggest strength.

Who is the reliable #2 option when its playoff time?

Shaq? What if he gets into foul trouble all game long like against the Magic.

Williams? Mr. Inconsistent.

I agree this might be the best team in the league, but it still scares me come playoff time.
