Cavs 09-10 Season (official thread)

J.J. was a first round draft pick dude, he's legit talent. Amare is definetley a baller but your acting like he's destined to be a legend and J.J. is some scrub. Amare isn't 30 yet, but he's still got 6 years on J.J., and he's had knee problems which adds some years on your body.

I don't mean to make it sound that way. I just think Amare is one of the more gifted players to come through the draft in the last decade. I think jj is good

Who is the reliable #2 option when its playoff time?

Shaq? What if he gets into foul trouble all game long like against the Magic.

Williams? Mr. Inconsistent.

I agree this might be the best team in the league, but it still scares me come playoff time.
We don't necessarily need a definitive "#2 guy" as long as everyone on the team is putting in. It's what we've been doing this whole 13 game winning streak without Mo + Delonte.

Amare, from a talent and immediate impact standpoint, is an upgrade over J.J. But I'm not sure that team would play well together. I KNOW the team we have now plays great together. I just think this trade isn't a necessity.

I'm not completely opposed to this trade, I see the potential and how the rewards may outweigh the risks. I guess time will tell, the way it sounds Amare would rather be in Miami anyway.

For the most part I agree, but the play-offs are really quite different from the regular season.

We had the best record last year and no one gave Lebron consistent help in the play-offs. When you play the same team 4-7 times in a span of 1-2 weeks, it changes everything.

I just sometimes have nightmares of Lebron having one of his RARE offnights, everyone standing around watching him dribble at the top of the key for 20 seconds.

I think a consistent #2 helps in so many ways.

the deal is still far from complete and this is why i love/hate trade deadline time...remember last year when we were supposed to get shaq for sure...then 3 pm came and went and nothing came of it...cavs are in a good position this year with wally and Z's expiring contracts and the upside of JJ...

Sources: Others up antes in bidding for Phoenix Suns forward Amare Stoudemire - ESPN

However, according to sources, Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala, appears to be the Suns' top choice.
So far, the Sixers have been leery of giving up their best player for Stoudemire.
While Stoudemire has good relationships with LeBron James and Shaquille O'Neal, some close to Stoudemire believe Miami -- where he lives during the summer -- is his first choice.
Miami has pursued Stoudemire hard but has no one on its roster (besides Dwyane Wade) that interests Phoenix, according to sources. That includes Michael Beasley. So it would take a three-team deal for Stoudemire to be traded to the Heat.
Of course, Cleveland can also pursue three-team deals that would sweeten the offer for Phoenix.

I think there are 3-4 players who can step up on any night and be the # 2 guy on this team.

We performed well as a team in the playoffs until we came up against the team we didn't match up well against. We also struggled against them in the regular season. The fact that this season we have performed well against them and the Lakers bodes well for us in the playoffs IMO. That is why I think this team has all the pieces it needs to beat the top teams in the league, and that is why I don't think we need to make this trade.

You don't want a PF that can be a threat outside of 5 feet, this year? JJ won't be that for another year or so.

Thats a big key... can the Cavs resign Amare after this year? If he bolts to Miami than the future is even more bare other than Lebron.

hes looking at how we would matchup with mainly the lakers (Bynum, Gasol, Odum) and Orlando (howard, gortat)....i love this trade

This trade would have little to do with Orlando. First of all Gortat does not belong in this conversation. He's a turd. Z gets abused by Howard and Hickson is a non-factor - despite that sick block he got the other night. Actually, with an upgraded scoring threat in Stoudemire, it might serve to get Howard in foul trouble or off the court a little faster. You can't count on that though and don't make a trade like this based on that alone.

This move is more about Boston. Yes, Boston sucks right now, but they are a matchup nightmare for the Cavs - or at least they were at the beginning of the season. They will play each other a couple times coming up soon, so maybe that's changed a little, but adding Stoudemire and Powe would give the Cavs a stronger frontcourt to take on Garnett, Wallace & Perkins.

The ability to get Z back is a key to this trade for me. He has some huge liabilities, but he also brings a few things to the table that the others do not.
