I don't think they will get to 50, but I don't think that 48 is out of the question...

Cleveland Cavaliers center Ben Wallace likely will miss a game tonight against the New Orleans Hornets because of back spasms he has had the past two weeks.
With 10 regular-season games remaining, the Cavaliers want Wallace as ready as possible for the postseason.
"We just have to make sure going down the stretch that he gets enough rest with that back so that you can limit the effects going into the playoffs," coach Mike Brown said after practice yesterday.

Allred, signed from the NBA D-League, has played in two games for Cleveland. He signed his first 10-day contract on March 13.
Working overtime pays off

The number of Cavaliers on the practice court was dwindling early Tuesday afternoon as the team finished up a long, hard workout. Players headed for the weight room and coaches prepared for their traditional post-practice pickup game.
But on the far court, assistant coach Chris Jent continued throwing pass after pass to rookie center Lance Allred, who signed a second 10-day contract with the team on Tuesday. Left baseline, right baseline, left block, right block, over and over. Again and again.

Wish Joe Tait congratulations by posting your comments at the end of the story
Cathalynn Thompson has never seen a Cavaliers game, but she knows all about the team from Joe Tait.
Thompson was born three months premature, and all she can see is light, dark and a faint outline of people. Tait is her eyes on the Cavs, the radio broadcaster's voice the soundtrack of every Cavs season for her since the days of Tom Nissalke coaching the Cavs in the early 1980s.

READY TO GO After sitting out the last 17 games with a sprained left ankle, guard Daniel Gibson is "10 levels past anxious" to return to action. That return could come tonight if the Cavs' medical staff clears him. He went through his first full practice Tuesday and had no problems. "I'm looking forward to just being able to play basketball," Gibson said. He thinks the remaining 11 games "give me an opportunity to get back into the flow of things ... (and) let the other guys get used to me out there on the floor, so we'll be where we need to be when the playoffs roll around."

NBA roundup: Hornets sting Cavs with last-second jumper
Thursday, March 27, 2008 3:14 AM

David West's 17-foot jumper, coming on Chris Paul's 20th assist, with less than a second left gave the New Orleans Hornets their fifth straight win, 100-99 over the Cleveland Cavaliers last night.
Paul drove left, picked up a screen against LeBron James and drew three defenders in the lane before spinning around and whipping a pass back to West. The All-Star forward then calmly dropped his jumper with 0.6 of a second left.

CLEVELAND A twisting and turning Chris Paul silenced Cavaliers fans in an instant Wednesday night at Quicken Loans Arena.
No easy task after LeBron James had the sellout crowd of 20,562 on their feet screaming. But moments later, Cavs fans stood stunned after another great pass by Paul set up David West's game-winning 17-footer to give the Western Conference-leading New Orleans Hornets a last-second 100-99 win.
It was Paul's 20th assist, and it snapped the Cavs' season-best nine-game home winning streak. And if that wasn't enough, Paul turned it over just once in his 42 minutes.

Brown's goal: Keep Cavaliers healthy
Thursday, March 27, 2008

CLEVELAND Mike Brown can't wait to see what type of team he has as the playoffs approach. But the Cavaliers head coach also wants to make sure his team is healthy for the postseason.
That's why Brown is in no rush to get Daniel Gibson and Ben Wallace back on the floor. Gibson missed his 18th straight game and Wallace his second when the Cavs played the Hornets on Wednesday.
"I wish they both could play (Wednesday), but the reality of it is it would not be a good thing for them nor a good thing for us if they tried to go," Brown said. "So I'm going to sit back and be patient."

Ben Wallace and Daniel "Boobie" Gibson remained out of the Cavaliers' lineup Wednesday night against New Orleans. Wallace is not likely to play in Detroit on Saturday but Gibson is.
"If all goes [according to plan] I should be able to play [Saturday]," said Gibson, who has been out with a left ankle sprain since Feb. 20. Gibson is more than ready to return to the court.
"It has been a learning experience for me," Gibson said. "This is something I haven't been through before. But it's been almost torture sitting on the bench watching the games because you can't get out there."

Nothing plays out as planned for Cavs
Injuries make transition difficult after big trade, and time is running out

INDEPENDENCE: This was some rocky honeymoon.
Not much has gone to plan since the Cavaliers took the risk of making the largest midseason trade in team history about five weeks ago. After Wednesday's one-point loss to the New Orleans Hornets, the Cavs are just 9-8 since the deal. Deeper than that, none of the new players has seemingly been able to find any sort of rhythm and make the expected contributions night in and night out.
The entire plan was optimistic, integrating four new faces into the rotation with no training camp, limited practice time, and fewer than 30 games before the playoffs. Some injuries made everything more complex, and now it seems all are struggling to get comfortable within their roles.
