Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

Wizards, Cavaliers add spice to rivalry LeBron-Stevenson feud could add to playoffs
Published on Monday, Mar 24, 2008

In the past week, the Cavaliers have entrenched themselves into the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race ? more because they've fallen almost out of reach of the No. 3 Orlando Magic than for any other reason.
But there's also been a switch behind them, as the Washington Wizards have overtaken the Toronto Raptors in the No. 5 slot. There's time for jostling, but what an enticing first-round matchup Cavs-Wizards III could become.
The Cavs consider their rivals the Detroit Pistons and, to a lesser extent, the Boston Celtics, but the Wizards' No. 1 enemy surely seems to be the Cavs. The Wizards would probably love another playoff shot after losing the past two years.

Cleveland Cavaliers have nagging situations marring playoff preparation

Monday, March 24, 2008Branson Wright
Plain Dealer Reporter
Milwaukee- With only 11 regular-season games left, coach Mike Brown said the Cavaliers are not where he wants them . . . yet.
"The guys we have on the team have a great feel for the game," Brown said. "They're veteran players and they want to do things the right way. When you have that combi nation, the sky's the limit."
But the Cavs, preparing for their third straight playoff appearance, have been unable to consistently find that winning combination. There have been bright spots with victories over Detroit and Toronto, but Ben Wallace's recurring back spasms, the high ankle sprain that still has Daniel "Boobie" Gibson on the shelf and the five-game road losing streak dull optimism.
@StoryAd
Back spasms forced Wallace to miss most of the second half of Friday's game against Toronto and all of Saturday's game at Milwaukee. Wallace's bad back knocked him out at halftime of the game against Portland on March 10 and kept him out against New Jersey on March 12.

Road takes toll on Cavs
Monday, March 24, 2008
BY Chris Beaven
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

Watch them while they are at home and the Cavs look like they are headed back to the NBA Finals. They lock down on defense. They knock down big shots on offense.

Then come the road games.

Watch out. The defense cracks, the offense stalls and the Cavs stumble to losses.

"We just haven't been able to get it done on the road and that's concerning," Head Coach Mike Brown said after Saturday's 108-98 loss at Milwaukee.

Less than five weeks from the playoffs, the Cavs are riding a nine-game home winning streak and a five-game road losing streak. Overall, they have lost seven of eight away from home, and those road woes are trumping their success at Quicken Loans Arena.

"I'm worried because if we expect to be a very good playoff team, we got to know how to win on the road," Brown said. "And for some reason it doesn't matter who we're playing, it's almost like we just think we can show up and turn it on at the end of the game instead of coming out and playing the right way."

I'd take Toronto over Washy, but I say we 4-1 either one of them.

I really don't want to play Washington again. Give me someone new and let the the Wizards rivalry cool off a little. If Arenas comes back strong they are going to be a pretty good team. They could be a tough out for Orlando.

Cleveland Cavaliers' season-ending schedule in their favor

Can the Cavaliers win 50 games for the third season in a row?
Not likely.
Heading into Wednesday's home game against Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets, the Cavs are 40-31 with 11 games left. Unless they put together their best winning streak of the season, it's not going to happen. It also seems unlikely they'll be able to make up the five games on Orlando for the third seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
The good news? Seven of the last 11 are at home, where the Cavs have won their past eight and are 24-10 this season.
