Magic shoot down Cavs Second-half spree of 3s creates bad matchups

ORLANDO, FLA.: There seems to be some general disagreement throughout the NBA as to whether the Orlando Magic are a legit contender.
They are reasonably inexperienced, their defense is often suspect and they survive by shooting massive quantities of 3-pointers. None of that is considered to be positive come the postseason, which is why the Magic have fought for respect all season.
But just ask the Cavaliers after Monday night, when the Magic play their style and things are clicking they can be an extremely challenging opponent.

Back-to-back games draw Cavs' ire Unusual number of second games are on road and often they are against well-rested opponents

ORLANDO, FLA.: It was a routine night for the Cavaliers on Monday; they were playing the second night of back-to-back games on the road against a team that was working with more rest.
NBA schedules are complex and every team goes through difficult parts of the schedule when they face adversity due to travel. Quite often during a season you will hear the term ''schedule loss.'' But the Cavs' slate this season has been out of whack compared to previous years.
Monday was the Cavs' 17th back-to-back set of the season, which is not an abnormal number. However, it was the 15th time in those 17 sets that the Cavs had to play the second night on the road, which is a known disadvantage.

LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers lose to Orlando Magic

Orlando shoots past Cavs, who have yet to find cure for road woes

Tuesday, March 18, 2008 Mary Schmitt Boyer

Plain Dealer Reporter
Orlando, Fla.- Before the start of the second half Monday night in Amway Arena, Le Bron James shook hands with Tiger Woods, who was sitting in the front row across from the Cavaliers bench.
In spite of their obvious shared ties to Nike, it was the first time the two ever met.
As far as second-half highlights for the Cavaliers, that pretty much covered it.
@StoryAd
After falling behind by 10 points midway through the third quarter, the Orlando Magic shot past the Cavs for a 104-90 victory. In the second half, Orlando made 19 of 38 shots, including 9 of 15 3-pointers.
"We have never played harder or fought harder than we did tonight," a beaming Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy said as the Magic improved to 45-24.
The Magic also took a 2-1 lead in the four-game regular-season series against the Cavs and currently own the third seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race, 6? games in front of the fourth-seeded Cavs.

Magic 3s stop Cavs, LeBron
Tuesday, March 18, 2008
By TRAVIS REED
Associated Press Writer

ORLANDO, Fla. The Orlando Magic found their shooting touch ? beyond 23 feet.

Rashard Lewis made three of five 3-pointers in scoring 21 points, Dwight Howard had 23 points and 13 rebounds and the Orlando Magic beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 104-90, on Monday night.

Orlando shot better from 3-point range (43.8 percent) than it did overall (39.5 percent). The Magic won despite getting outscored 22-3 on fastbreak points and 46-34 in the paint.

"They made shots that they didn't make in the first half," said LeBron James, who had 30 points, nine rebounds and six assists. "They are a team that shoots the ball very well. They hit a lot of 3-pointers, and when they do that it is tough to come back. We just never recovered from that."

Delonte West had 16 points and Sasha Pavlovic added 14 for the Cavs, who fell to 1-2 against the Magic this season.

Great show. Thanks boys.

As far as your assistant coaching goes, we had a white man directly in front of me (looked a lot like Billy Donovan) who was about the only assistant who talked or did anything for that matter.

As far as shooting, I can't blame us with 3 point shooting that well. We got to see the Cavs offense in the first half, and their defense in the second half. Orlando was on fire.

Overall sloopyness did lead to to many turnovers- but I liked the effort, and in the end, we played pretty well.

DeLonte West is officially the best part of the trade. LeBrons (let me mention, damn, he put on some size since the last time I saw him!) big dunk was also monsterous, on our side of the floor.

Good show, worth the price, even though the second half was kind of ugly.

Plus, Chris Tucker was 3 feet in front of me, and Tiger Woods was directly across the floor from me.

Cavaliers' trade not a very big deal so far Expected improvement fails to happen. Pistons provide test
By Brian Windhorst

Since the calendar turned to March, the Cavaliers have been spinning their wheels. They have not made the improvement expected after executing a team-altering trade at last month's deadline.
They are 5-4 this month and 8-6 since the trade, and there hasn't been enough evidence to determine what is working and what isn't so far. In the disappointing loss Monday in Orlando, Fla., to the playoff-bound Magic, the Cavs gave up a 10-point lead in the second half.

Rivalry is revved up

Big Ben's presence will increase Pistons' intense hatred for Cavs
Wednesday, March 19, 2008Story by Branson Wright
Plain Dealer Reporter Auburn Hills, Mich.
- The ri valry between the Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons rose when LeBron James guided the Cavs past the Pistons in last year's Eastern Conference Finals. But a trade brought former Chicago Bulls and Pistons center Ben Wallace to the Cavs and the rivalry has moved to another level. It's on, starting tonight at The Q.
"It's just going to be weird," said Pistons guard Rip Hamilton to reporters, shortly after the trade. "Seeing Ben in that Cleveland uniform, it ain't right."
But true.
@StoryAd
Bad blood between the Cavs and the Pistons run deep. It was Rasheed Wallace's elbow to the head of Zydrunas Ilgauskas two years ago that drew blood down Ilgauskas' face and Wallace received a $5,000 fine for his act. In November, in the first game between the Cavs and the Pistons, Antonio McDyess slapped down at the ball as James went through the lane, but instead of getting all ball, McDyess put James out in the first half with a left index sprain. The Cavs lost by 35 and James missed five games, all losses.

Can't wait for the game tonight...

It will be interesting to see how well we defend Rip and Chauncey...I think Sasha will get one and Devin Brown will get one when he comes in...

This is where Larry really helped us, so now we are going to have to depend on West to be able to guard one of them, and I really like that we have someone other than Drew to guard Sheed...

Z is under used in the sense that you wish the Cavs could use him more, but you're right, they get as much out of him as Z's health will allow them.

I've been tough on Wally since he came over. Tonight though he's looking good coming off those curls around the free throw line. He's getting some good looks on that mid-range jumper or putting the ball on the floor from there. Maybe that'll get him on track. For me, it beats having him take three-pointers all night.
