Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

I think Wally does just that. He's a proven scorer that can actually shoot as opposed to Hughes who couldn't shoot his way out of a bathroom. As a starter, I think he could give 16-18 points a night much more consistently than Hughes ever could. Sure Hughes has been playing much better lately, but inevitably, he'll go cold again and be back to his 3-13 shooting self.

eeeh. This isn't Wally from 3-4 years ago. He hasn't even been getting much burn for the Supersonics. He can shoot, but other than that doesn't bring anything to the table. The Cavs become an instant title contender when they find an offensive player who can create for LeBron rather than the other way around.

I do like the trade overall, but I don't think we became any better offensively at all and have put more of a burden on LeBron.

Wally still shoots 46% and 42%

Smith shoots better than Gooden.

West can shoot and plays very good D

Wallace plays much better D than Gooden.

I don't think LeBron needs to shoot any more than he alreadyt has been.

I think the trade will really help the Cavs and Lebron. Nobody is going to out rebound the Cavs now. The inside D just improved by alot and West is being billed as a very good defensive guard. Anyone remember Tony Parker?

Lebron game, is really going to the basket one on one . Boobie Gibson has really come around as a consistent outside shooter and Wally has hit over 40% of his 3 attempts for his career. Wallace blocking out under the hoop is going to help Lebron as well. In sum I really like this trade. :)

Boobie... your welcome

That said; i'm iffy on this trade. While I love the potential, I'm scared of possible reality.

That's the good thing about it. Even if it's a bust they are no worse off than they were before. They will still have tradeable players next year and/or cap space in two years. If Wallace comes in with a chip on his shoulder this will be good.

I think we better not judged this trade until we hear what Steven A. Smith has to say about it:biggrin:

WELL- I THINK THE EAST HAS BECOME MUCH BETTER WITH THIS TRADE- GATHER LEE BRON JAMES AND BEN WALLACE- THIS COULD BE HUGE!

YOU CAN NOW COUNT D-WHITE HOWARD AND THE MAGIC OUT, IT'S OFFICIALLY A THREE TEAM RACE.

Oh yea...

I don't think LeBron needs to shoot any more than he alreadyt has been.

Smith and Gooden's offensive game is a wash....Drew was much better offensively than most gave him crdeit for.....Smith HAS to be a better defender though. Drew was lost on defense...he regulary blew weakside help, was always late getting to his man on rotations, and ate pump fakes like Charlie Weiss at.....ok, bad move, Charlie eats everything.

I still think losing Drew hurts our offense. He was a nice valve for LeBron to dump it off too. I don't see Smith creating his own shot like Drew could one-on-one either.

Obviously Ben Wallace's defense is a major upgrade. I honestly think Danny Ferry was envisioning Kevin Garnett as he put this deal together. Wallace is a major liability on offense, as he draws about as much attention as Eric Snow. The good thing is that he can concentrate strictly on defense and offensive/defensive rebounding. Once Anderson gets healthy, I think we'll see a healthy dose of Wallace and Varejeao together. Z just doesn't have the game come playoffs for some reason. I think Z is the ultimate regular season player, but playoff basketball eats him up. I think we can utilize Z like Phoenix will utilize Shaq. About 20-25 minutes a game, and he'll be great in the clutch when we need free-throws and offense.

I don't think we'll even see much out of Wally. He'll probably get 10 minutes a game. His defense is suspect, he can't penetarte, and he completely survives on star players who can suck defenses in. He's basically reaquiring Jason Kapono. I doubt he sees the court more than 5 minutes during playoff basketball when defense is a premium.

I do think Delonte West can add a piece to this team come playoffs. Last year when Damon Jones entered the game in the playoffs, the opposing team immediately exploited the mis-match. We at least now have 2 guys come the playoffs who can handle the ball and not get dominated on the defensive side of the court. Most will recall Larry being hurt in th eplayoffs, and forcing Damon to play more than he should have. I'm probably in the minority, but I still think Eric can bring some value come playoff basketball. His defense is that good.

The best thing about this trade is that we didn't put ourselves in a poor position for next year. As most have stated, it's as if we traded for the same contracts that went out the door. It's a new formula that MAY sneak us into the finals.

Again, I really like Ben Wallace if we are to face Boston in the playoffs. I 100% believe Ben has been brought in to man up on KG.

This may be somewhat true, but for every good to great game he had, and he could look like an all-star at times, he'd follow it up with 2-3 terrible games that would have you (or me at least) screaming at the television. I don't know why that was, but I would probably attribute it to him having the IQ of a sloth. One of the most frustrating players I've ever seen. His contributions to the community will be missed, but I'm glad he's gone.

I wonder how soon these guys will get through their physicals? Tomorrow night could be a very short handed game. Lebron, Z, Brown, Jones, Jones, and Snow is all they have if Gibson is likely hurt. They will need to sign 2 players to fill out the roster.

Finally get a chance to comment on the trade...

I like it...We upgraded out defense, and cut ties with Drew and Larry...

I really like West's game and think that Smith and Wally can provide some O off the bench...

We don't lose anything in terms of rebounding, and gain on defense...We still have the best player in the league...I think we might lean on Sasha in terms of more offense out of him when he comes back...
