Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

while a valid concern, cleveland's bench scoring (when healthy) increases exponentially when you have guys like joe smith and sasha/wally coming in instead of ira newble and dwayne jones.

I agree...With Wally and Boobie that will open up the floor for LBJ as well, and with Big Ben and Andy in the paint that will allow for more liability on defense...

That is why is it still a good trade cap-wise. I am not bashing the deal at all, and I like it. But, I don't know if this is the key that unlocks everything for them. And, FWIW with Gibson I wouldn't even try to trade for a PG like they were talking about.

I agree I don't think that this trade unlocks everything for them. BUT, it does loosen the lock a bit. I really see this deal as a primer for this offseason or next year's trading deadline to make the killer move.

But the rest of the year will answer alot of questions. West has a month to show that he can be a starting PG (or at least a quality backup to Gibson). Then when Gibson comes back he will have to show that he can play PG on this team. And that means defending the other team's PG more than anything. Cuz really Gibson plays alot more like a SG than the PG.

The biggest question is how will Delonte West play? Can he defend? Cuz no matter how much I didn't like Hughes he at least was able to defend.

West is a very good defender! He'll be better (than Hughes)against the 1's but not so much the taller 2's, but that's where LeBron fits in.

I'm only wondering how long it takes to play together.

The instructions to Wallace should be easy: Get underneath the basket, rebound anything near you, let no pg drive the lane uncontested.

On offense, watch for offensive rebounds and stay awake for the occasional quick pass on a LeBron drive. Catch the ball and dunk.

No one involved in the trade will be at tonight's game. The Cavs have to call up 2 guys from the cornbread league just to have the NBA's minimun of 8 players. Tonight's game should be a joke.

Yeah, sucks to be anyone who bought tickets for tonight. For some reason I see those 2 guys we called up to play the whole 4th quarter.

But it will be an interesting side show to see if Snow keels over from playing 40 minutes tonight.

We may see half a hundred from LeBron tonight.

One thing for sure is we're gonna be seeing alot of Snow tonight and not the white fluffy stuff. At least the Wiz will be without Arenas and Butler.

It'll be nice to see Simmons and Shannon get some pt tonig.........oops.

Very happy to see this trade... not a cavs fan, but I like Lebron, and hated seeing him suffer for the Cav's ineptitude in the front office. Definitely a big step in the right direction.

that's me! seeing lebron live is worth it every time for me regardless of the other players on the court.

Would you rather have
Hughes (12.0 player efficiency rating) or Szczerbiak (16.0)?
Brown (8.5) or West (10.1)?
Marshall (8.5) or Wallace (12.1)?
Gooden (12.8) or Smith (17.4)?
I go from being OK with the trade to actually liking this trade

"Is this the long term fix or the short term fix?"

Thats the radio program I'm listening to right now, and I don't really know yet. This is going to be really interesting, watching it play out.

I do believe we need to do more to get LBJ to stay in 2010, but this is a very good fix for now, showing we're willing to do things to improve.

No doubt this is merely the short term band aid... Only LT piece could be West... next year we go for a LT version of Joe Smith... and the following year a LT fix at center... then we're good to go

The Cavaliers have a new core to surround James, Ferry didn't hurt his team's long-term salary cap flexibility.

Thinking more about this trade, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Gilbert had a hand in this trade. He has ties to Detroit, when Ben was a dominant force, and he obviously wants to keep LeBron in Cleveland. I don't think he organized the trade at all, but I wouldn't be surprised if he said like "Hey if Ben Wallace is out there go get him". He brought in his own announcer (McCleod) (spelling?)... now he brought in his own enforcer.
