Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

Wallace never fit in in Chicago. He'll be able to wear his head band and fro without the team giving him shit here. Plus, he'll be with LBJ and that should motivate him. He's infinitely tougher than Gooden.

A deal that should make the Cavs better short term yet has contracts very similar in length and money that still gives them flexibility long term. I like it, very excited to see how long it takes for these guys to gel.

My way too early reaction is that I like this deal. Like somebody already said, Ferry traded away most of the frustrating players on the team for some solid contributors. He made a big move, which tells the fans and LeBron that the franchise is not content to be idle. He also added a draft pick. It's a second rounder so it may not mean much in the grand scheme of things, but to me it's nice to see an extra pick coming after all the picks the Cavs have given up in their recent history. Perhaps most importantly, he did all of this in a way that does not seriously restrict the Cavs' ability to make some more meaningful moves over the next couple years with expiring contracts.

Ugh. WHat I don't like about this trade is having to look at Delonte West's ugly mug three nights a week. :sick1:

Wallace and Varejao on the floor makes for a pretty darn good rebounding and defensive front court. Smith and Z both have nice mid-range games. It'll be nice to be able to mix and match with those four. Late in games, Brown will have a good offense-defense subbing option, assuming he doesn't fuck it up. :p

Hell, they lose 2 regulars, 1 part-timer in Newble, one occasional contributor in Marshall, and a couple of guys that rarely see significant minutes in Brown and Simmons. Replace them with 4 guys that should all play regular minutes and a draft pick? Sounds good to me.

Someone call ESPN and tell them to "forget" to mention that Shannon Brown was included in the deal before cbf40 blows up the Q. :paranoid:

So Ferry was able to get something good done when most (including myself) thought he didn't have anything to work with. Seems to have improved the team without hurting them in the future. This is a good sign for the next two years.

How the hell did I fail to mention the obscene quantity of hair on the floor when these two are out there together?

If no one tells 40, he might never know since Shannon never saw the court that much this season.

My question is who will start at the PF, Wallace or AV?

What if the league office does not approve the deal just to screw the Cavs?

Walton said during the halftime show last night that someone needed to step up and help Cleveland out. Hopefully here it is.

I just realized that the Cavs haven't played the Bulls yet this season so now they have to face Drew 4 times. He always seems to have his best games against his former teams. We also get the battle between Andy and Bizzaro Andy.

Exactly... I'm banking on Wallace being re-energized by LeBron, and LeBron makes everyone around him so much better.

Also the more and more I think about this trade, the more I like it. I really didn't expect these names to come to Cleveland, but it's nice to see that Ferry can pull off a big trade. Lets start with the little piece of the deal. The second rounder gives us another shot to hit on a guy there, especially since it will be a low 2nd because Chicago sucks this year. I don't know alot about Joe Smith, but he should give us some more solid depth at the forward position. I already talked about, Wallace and I think in a defensive minded system, and on a defensive minded team, he will play much better than he did in Chicago. I also think Wally will fit here better than Hughes did, because Wally can still shoot and score a little bit. Finally, I also have really like West as a player. I think playing next to Lebron will only make him better, and he plays good defense. I'm really looking forward to their next game because this was such a big shakeup. Overall though, I like the deal because we only gave up two players that played significant roles (maybe three if you count Newble). Larry had been playing better, but he wasn't the best fit for this team, and Drew has just been inconsistent.

The panel on Rome is Burning are saying this trade adds nothing for the Cavs, and now the Bulls are going to make the playoffs. The more I think about it, the more I like this trade.

No doubt we'll hear Skip Bayless telling us tomorrow that the Cavs just traded away their only good players. :roll2:

Wishful thinking in my opinion. His problems had more to do with age, than wearing a stupid headband. He's washed up.
